Buyer asking for discount - just when we are agreeing completion date!

Not only did they want the gas and electric reports they also wanted the letter Redrow gave us in 2001 agreeing to us doing our extension. I couldn't find the letter. Had all the the local authority plans, permission and completion certificate but couldn't find the letter. Contacted Redrow, who don't issue copy letters. Had to send them the plans, permission and certificate and a cheque for £120! At this point I was ready to walk away. Didn't want to outlay more money. My husband wanted to. Solicitor said following conversation with their solicitor, once they had letter would exchange July 1 and complete July 15. So, sent for letter. Today - we were contacted by our Estate Agent about the gas and electric reports. We had to pay for them. Estate Agent agreed to pay for the electric report, wanted us to pay £50 for gas report - I lost it. No more money, I just wasn't paying anymore money. Probably sounds stupid to walk away for £50 but even if it had been £10 I would still have said no, enough was enough. Our Estate Agent contacted the agent of the vendor we are buying from - explained situation and the vendor agreed to pay the £50. I don't know why, she's probably as fed up as us as to the time it's taken and all the messing around. So an electrician and a gas man came today and spent over 3 hours in our house & guess what - we passed, surprise, surprise!! Also the letter from Redrow was emailed to me. So is that it? Will we now agree dates? Watch this space....0

Unless you're desperate, tell them the deal is off. If you can release this stress and re-market to more reasonable people then try again. You said in your opening post, 'it's like they have us over a barrel' - why give them that power - ditch and quick.0

they sound a nightmare
I think I would tell them, complete by Jul 8th or else..
Time they got a dose of their own medicine.0 -

I found this thread a bit late but faced with the initial request for a reduction I would have called the estate agent, state I was disgusted with the buyer that they had found for me and say that the price I had originally accepted was my minimum and that the only reduction I could consider would have to be matched in a reduction in their fee. I would then find out how likely they thought that they would find a new buyer as if they didnt think they could find a new buyer they would reduce their fee,if they thought they could find a new buyer then they would not reduce their fee.0

Fulminating at the EA when something like this happens is only going to require bridges to be rebuilt when you actually need them to find you a new buyer.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Well I am probably to the other extreme. Had offer accepted on mine, made offer on the one we wanted which was accepted after putting it up twice. Since then have viewed it again and realised it needs rewiring. Survey report has pointed out low level woodworm in the cellar joists that needs treating. We know the heating system is outdated (back boiler 11 years old) and windows are in need of replacement. We will be spending a lot of money on the property anyway as it will be what we want. It is in a delightful location and ticks all our boxes.
We were tempted to ask for a reduction based on the survey but decided as the valuation still values it at that then the repairs are costed in. We may be stupid to some but we made the offer, we have stuck by it.If I had a pound for every pound I'd lost, I'd be confused0 -

Remind me to give you a call when I want to offload something at an inflated price which you will pay to renovate.0
