Upgrading Norton Internet Security 2010

Ah,
I knew it would not be longer before those who don't use Norton dragged up the old record of 'how bloated and slow it makes my computer'.
As endlessly stated by many people on MSE, yes it was around the 2008 era: thats agreed by everybody.
Now it is not. I believe it was totally re-written in the 2009 edition, and now operates totally in the background without being noticed by the user.0 -

Well said! Norton has always been amongst the best AV for malware detection/removal but in the past its been bloated which put a lot of people off...me included. However in recent years Symantec have listened to their customers and now their products are super light without losing their effectiveness. I went from the once legendary NOD32 (ESET) to NIS 2011 and i find Norton faster...if you told me that a few years ago, i'd have laughed at you:rotfl:

Yes, I'd agree, it's much less bloated than it used to be, and it's not the terrible product it was once much derided for being. But still, when it comes to detection rates, it scores lower on the av-comparatives tests (albeit slightly) than the free alternatives of Avast and Avira, both of which are widely considered to be even lighter on resources than Norton 2011. (AVG scores worse on both counts)ChiefGrasscutter wrote: »I knew it would not be longer before those who don't use Norton dragged up the old record of 'how bloated and slow it makes my computer'.

I'll just add my penny's worth - I've used Norton IS since 2009 and have just renewed my subscription with Norton for £25. Yes, I could have bought a new copy of 2011 for 3 quid cheaper, and yes, could probably uninstalled and looked for a cheaper older version - but, frankly, I couldn't bothered. I've got it installed on my PC and my two daughters' laptops - I simply renewed it from my PC and didn't need to do anything with my daughters' laptops (who are at uni) since the renewal for theirs also happened automatically.
And the good thing is, we've already been working with the 2011 version ever since it was released - once you have your subscription in place, NIS automatically upgrades to the latest version as soon as they are released. So personally I think it's good value for money.Never let it get you down... unless it really is as bad as it seems.0
