Turn off all the breakers then turn them on one by one until you find which is the one that trip, if the label says sockets B32 then it will either be the upstairs ring main, downstairs ring main or kitchen ring main or both downstairs/kitchen if its an older installation.

What sort of CSU do you have as a flex could be "pinched" and could be tripping the breaker.

And if you find the circuit unplug everything on that ring and try again by plugging in each applaince one by one.

if its the mcb tripping and the only thing plugged in is the fridge sounds like a short circuit i suggest getting an electrician out fridges are prone to tripping out rcds not mcbs and i dont suggest keep flicking it on as this can dammage the mcb as these are designed to protect against overcurrent

I have no idea what MCBs RCBs and CSUs are, let alone what sort they are!

Electrician was going to pop by after 'work', but H came home from work just now afternoon and it all works. :wall: He thinks something might have gotten wet from a leak from the washing machine and then dried out over the day? He only did what I was doing to do this morning. Gradually turning everything back on in the house as we need it and it all seems fine.

I wish I'd read that handy hint about the cooker socket before my phone died. :rotfl: I did notice it was on but didn't click that the socket on it would work too. I'll know next time it does it. Which it probably will.

It's hard to clarify exactly what is happening without understanding the language, but it is the little socket switch on the consumer unit which is tripping and causing the entire electrics in the house to trip as well. We don't have upstairs and downstairs isolated from each other unfortunately which is a PITA!

    MCB Miniature Circuit Breaker
RCB Residual Current Breaker or RCBO
CSU Consumer Unit = The box with all the cables and switches located under the stairs with the spiders web and where Mum always shouted at you "don't touch it or you will die in a Doctor Who voice)

Don't do what I did today... Came home to find cooker circuit had tripped so I went to reset the circuit breakers. Set them all to green but still nothing would work. Phoned Southern Electric who confirmed there was an issue in the area and would be back on by 6pm. 6pm came and the house came back to life - great, I though! Except that green means 'safe to work' i.e. OFF! It had all come back on cos OH had got home and wondered why I'd turned all the electrics off...

Had a very similar problem in one house. Disconnected all the sockets I could find on the affected circuit and the RCD still tripped. I was scratching my head for a while and then remembered that a few weeks before I had noticed a socket under the sink which was never used. Took the socket off and found water in there so I dried it out and then tried the power again - everything now worked fine. I guess that the socket had been put there in case someone installed a dishwasher or washing machine but directly under the sink taps seemed a rather stupid place to me so we ended up blanking the socket off and sealing up the cable.
