I hope all these people changing from Eon FOL8 are aware that they are losing the discount on final bill. This does not make the EDF quite as attractive.

Based on my annual kw/h useage, the difference between EDF 2014 & EON Fixed 5 (July 2013) is about £30.00 a year (albeit EDF is 8mths longer fix). The discount i would lose by switching supplier is approx £75.00 ....... Just not worth it imo. I'm staying with Eon.

I've switched to EDF Fixed 2014 today. I was on EON Fixonline8. Nothing compares to my current tariff, prices increase which ever tariff I choose.

For me EDF Fixed 2014 is 5% more than EON Fixed Price 5 (ends 01.07.13), it is also 15% more than EDF's Fixed Saver V2.

I don't use much gas and elec (about £500 last year)and have always gone for online with no standing charge. I'm with SP at the moment:eek:

Looking at these fixed rates, they all seem to have standing charges; is there anyway to avoid these with fixed? Do they really work out cheaper with a standing charge for a low user, does anyone know?
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

This has been discussed at leangth on this forum. From what I understand, as long as the switchover accurs after 1st July (usually takes 4 weeks to switch) then you still get the discount on your final bill. Some people are sending latest meter readings and requesting a final bill before EDF have contacted EON to minimise damage if that's not the case.

But even if it were the case, it's still be worthwhile you switching to EDF, as you say you'd save £30 a year. That's £30 x 3 = £90, plus £35 cashback for switching via one of recommended sites. Plus you'd be protected for the longest period (the next 3 winters).

I disagree. Not worth the risk imo. £30 a year saving is not big enough, when i could lose up to £75 if E-on do decide to withold the £75 (per qtr in my case) discount. Not to mention, i believe the EDF tariff has a cancellation fee should you choose to move before end of contract. The Eon fixed 5 may be £30 a year more, but there is no penalty should things change in the future.

Just my opinion of course ;)

Can I ask, did you use once of the switchover sites to get some cashback? If so, which one did you use? Simplyswitch offer the highest (£40) but it doesn't let you complete the switch online so the £40 can't be had. Next best appears to be beatthatquote at £35 for a dual fuel switch, or energylinx at £34.

    Any thoughts, people?

I was about to use Simply switch to get what seems to me the highest cashback. I,m now not sure having seen this statement. Can anyone explain why you don't get the £40 cashback by doing it online and how you actually do it? Do you have to phone?

Because simplyswitch don't have a cashback deal in place with the supplier for that particular tariff.
