Welcome advice - Transfer to NS&I

Options
Hi all, I need a bit of help to get the money transferred out!

Here's the story:

I've applied for the index linked saving certificates. However, HSBC (my bank) has blocked the transfer because it's over the limit. I called HSBC, they said they can only allow large transfers if the receiving institution's sort code/account number is known. I then called NS&I and they said they don't give out sort codes and account numbers and that they are not a bank. They reassured me that naming the institution (NS&I, full name, short form, etc.) and my application number would suffice. I called HSBC again and they said they couldn't find this institution in their list and they cannot get this progressed.

I'm waiting in line for someone in NS&I to pick up (30 mins+ already). I'm desperate for some help from you guys.

P.S. My transfer sum is around few thousands pounds, which is below the HSBC 'huge sum' limit. What are your experiences? Advice on how to get round to this is much appreciated. Applying by cheque?

Thank you so much in advance.

I would try HSBC again. Ask to speak to someone senior if possible.

Didnt have any trouble with my HSBC . They released my 10k to NS&I ok when NS&I requested it from them . I had as a precaution rung the bank to warn them this was about to happen, but they weren't really interested -said there wasnt anything they could do to facilitate it as I didnt even know what date NS&I were going to make the demand ,and I got the distinct impression my call had been unecessary.
  • Hi, why not have the money paid into your own bank account (any bank) then make a normal online purchase for the ILSC from NS&i.
    Good luck. :)
Love generously, praise loudly, live fully :)

How are you trying to pay for your index linked saving certificates?

The simplest way is to use your debit card and let NS&I take the funds from your current account..
