M&S Energy

Hello,

I saw M&S Energy come up on a comparison site, they have good reviews and offer cash back in the form of vouchers.

I was wondering if anyone had any further information on them - have they found them to be expensive? They are Green energy and the trend from what I have seen on the boards is that Green can cost more!

Thank you!

  • They are offering £30 in vouchers on sign up for dual fuel by monthly DD with internet billing and £80 from my fuel bills in December (if monthly payment over £121 - £40 otherwise) and further vouchers after 12 months. They are not fixed rates however, but their prices per kWh seem good and no tie in either.

My tariff in the North is electricity 15.92p(exc vat) for 1st 182 units then 10.31p and gas 6.87p (exc vat) for 1st 625 then 3p (exc vat).

This seems favourable to the EDF fixed tariffs that I was thinking of moving to.

If you want another areas rates I have the full range.

Can I take you up on your offer of more info. I am with Scottish Power and currently spend £50 per month for internet account by DD. I have had the M&S offer and after today's price hike, happy to switch. I am in Hampshire.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I think this is quite difficult to find on their site, but this link should take you to their full table of current unit prices.

Hmm thats tricky I cannot post with links yet!

    Go to www. mandsenergy.com /about /saving.aspx
    Then click' View Unit Prices'
And should bring you up a table of figures!

I am in East Anglia and have not actually moved into the property yet - First time buyer! So I do not have any previous bills to compare so I am just trying to figure out what is a good price. If they do not tie you in then I guess I have the option of swapping a few months down the line once I have more information!

I was also wondering if you could pay the monthly bill by M&S credit card and get extra cash back through their voucher scheme!

M&S Energy is just a branding arrangement with Scottish and Southern, they don't really exist as a supplier.

thank you Macman, But is that not the case with the majority of the companies as all you do is switch who you are packaged with? In which case isn't it the best package that we should look at? Or am I missing something else?

Yes, by all means switch to them-but in effect you'll be dealing with a dedicated section of SSE.
No, the majority of energy companies do exist independently and buy and sell their own product.

Sorry to be the 1 to spoil all the fun but...

    M&S is just SSE.
Secondly, everyone on this site knows that standard tariffs are the ones to avoid. All this is, is a standard tariff with SSE with a few M&S vouchers thrown in.
It is NOT a discounted tariff, or a fixed or capped. It is infact just a standard variable rate. In other words a horrible tariff!
For the original poster, it is definetly not a green tariff either...

What you should be doing is getting on to a capped or fixed deal for as long as possible.

Is is it me or does this person seem very pro M+S energy even when other posters are advising just SSe standard domestic tariff, and an earlier poster considering opting for the VARIABLE M+S energy, instead of the edf fix is insane, given what's just about to happen in the market place.

    Hi,
I couldn't agree more with this post from Ferr 96. On sat I was approached by a salesman in M&S who was selling their energy package. He wouldn't/couldn't tell me the kw price of electricity and gas. I was interested to know these figures as my present contract with EDF expires on 30/06/2011. He kept going on about how much saving I would make but how does he know when he didn't even ask my yearly consumption!!!! He was just going off a book and 'pushed' the M&S vouchers til he could push no more. I have looked now at the SSE site and have seen their standard tariff prices and its safe to say I won't be going there, vouchers or not. Hope this helps - Sally
