Virgin Media website not recognising my flat in postcode checker

I'm in the process of moving house and am finally moving to a cabled area so am looking to get a Virgin Media connection. To add to the attraction, the cashback website I use offers a £160 discount over the life of my Virgin Media contract (£40 credit on first bill, and £10 a month for 12 months).

I will be moving into a block of flats, all of which are the same house number and postcode, however are called Flat 1 to 6. They pop up on most postcode checkers as individual properties.

However when I put the postcode into the Virgin Media website, it brings up only two of the flats in that property, neither of which is mine. The funnier bit is that it shows that one of the flats is in a cable area and the other one isn't (go figure).

I spoke to the Virgin call centre and they said they should be able to get the property added without any problems since one of the flats on the property is already listed as having cable. However by signing up on the phone, I miss out on the cashback.

Anyway, my query is that is there any method by which I can get the flat I am moving to listed on their postcode database so I can sign up using the cashback website?

I wouldn't have thought that the call centre people or the shop would help me out with this as this would cut into their commission (if I used their help and went onto the website to sign up).

Has anyone faced this problem ever? Any tips?

Hmm I had exactly the same problems with Virgin Media when we lived in a flat a couple of years ago:

One flat can get it, another can't in same block: When the engineer was sent out, apparently there was only room for one cable from the main "run" of cables in the road up to the flats. The downstairs flat already had Virgin (hence using up the only connection) so we couldn't have it. End of.

Reason for not all flats being listed on postcode checker: We found out that when the flats were created (an old house was split into flats in the 1980s), nobody had actually registered the flats as separate addresses with Royal Mail. I had to contact the council to get this sorted - based on how you're billed for council tax, they can send records or separate flats for Royal Mail to update their records. It took a few weeks for Royal Mail's website to be updated but a good few months before other companies that use this data to follow suit (e.g. utilities, courier companies etc.)

Oh dear, I suspect that might be the problem with the property I'm about to move into as well.

As for the general postcode checker, when I put the postcode into Sky and BT, it offers me all the flats individually including mine. And the BT website does say they expect they could give me a speed of 13 Mbps, so even if I get half that on ADSL broadband, it won't be the end of the world.

VM are a pain in the backside.

I would happily go with them as they provide all the houses in my road.....except for the flats.

They would run a cable from the main line to my flat but I would need to get permission from the downstairs flat for them to put the box junction on the wall.

I did say to them to send the forms through and I'll get them signed so I could get it......and they didn't bother!
