We are visiting Albufeira for the first time in August, renting a villa with hubby, daughter and son in law and four grandchildren and I must admit I am slightly nervous about the holiday. Does not help that my elderly mother dislikes us going on holiday anyway and at every opportunity is asking us "why are we going to a poor country (euro) where people are getting stabbed" no doubt she'll have a bad turn just before the holiday !!! I'm not letting her know though that she's unnerving me. In the past though when we have been on holiday together with the children being so young we are back at our accommodation by about 9pm at the latest anyway.

Cherry you should be fine honestly . Use the local buses if you can .

A visit to The Old town is a must . It's a fantastic place .

If you are offered drugs the dealers don't pester you if you say no .

If you plan on staying out after dark , then the local taxis are quite reasonable .

Please don't cancel. As long as you follow the normal safety rules, as in any other place, you'll be perfectly fine!

As far as our holiday goes, we will go...booked villa and flights separately, not a package. I am sure we will have a great time and will be careful and alert at all times.

The events have happened in the very early hours of the morning. The Algarve is a safe friendly place, but crime happens everywhere.

Have your whits about you and use a taxi if necessary.

The Police presence has been increase recently so don't worry.
