Incapacity Benefit is for people who are unable to work owing to an illness or disability and is contribution based.
I am a bit unhappy when you say it is 'just for being depressed'. Depression is a serious illness and is a great deal more than just being cheesed off. Just because you can't see an illness or disability doesn't make it any less serious than one you can see.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

My ex husband is "so depressed" he can knock up his girlfriend and go out drinking every weekend and dancing.
I'm sorry but this gets my goat.
Its so easy for some men not to shave or brush his hair or wash and get signed off for depression. How many like my ex husband are doing this whilst working cash in hand to get out of maintenance payments.
I really do think this is a flaw in system.
Annoys heck out of me when I have to raise kids and keep it all together.0 -

Well the system is obviously flawed.I dont know what guidelines or testing are but obviously they arent stringent0

The thing is, no one would question whether someone had a broken leg, you can see that - but suffering from depression?....
My husband has suffered from depression to a greater or lesser degree since 1990. Loads of people say that they 'would never have dreamed he suffered fronm depression - he is always so cheerful and making jokes'.
Yes, well. They don't see him when he is crying, when he is anxious, when he is suicidal, when he is angry, when he is sad, when he is paranoid, when he is at his wit's end. He doesn't show those faces to the world. His nearest and dearest see them - no-one else does.
Please don't judge. If someone is classed as being depressed, assume they are, unless there is DIRECT evidence to the contrary.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

judging buy what youve typed I experience most of those emotions most days as a parent.I cant see how that prevents him working if he doesnt show it to others.Praps he would be better keeping busy, would distract him.As far as I know keeping physical is the best way to beat depression.0
