take the lappy and the universal charger with you to maplin, make sure you get the right bit to a. fit properly and b. charge/run the lappy properly :)

I'm going to have to order it online I'm afraid. Though the tip of the one I have is labellef I and there's one on maplin labelled I so I'm going to compare the measurements. I asked a question on the maplin website and they said it should work...

If you could post a close up photo of the connector we could advise you what it is called and where to get it from.

I twill likely need soldering onto the cables - can you manage this?

It does not need soldering, it is something which is interchangeable, a bit like an adapter on the end of an audio jack.

You could always do the job properly and solder a new power socket on the laptop.

    Just a thought.

It wasn't me that did the job in the first place....besides, if I can get a replacement tip that works for the Compaq for £1.79, the Toshiba isn't really worth bothering with.

Yep those :-) but I think I need an I and there isn't an I in that pack which is a shame. I will check measurements though, thanks
