Replacement tip for universal laptop PSU

Hi guys,
I'm usually pretty good at finding out what I need to know by Googling etc however I'm a bit stuck with this one!
One of our laptops is a battered 6 year old Toshiba which has spent 5 of those 6 years with the power cable soldered directly into the machine, it regularly overheats and the hard drive has been slowly dying and finally kicked the bucket last night. I am debating whether or not it's worth replacing the HD.
In the meantime, my husband could be using my old Compaq Presario V5002EA, however several years ago I replaced the power cable with a universal PSU which I bought from ebay. This is now broken...but it's only the tip that is broken (there is a crack in the metal effecting the contact and so the wire has to be held into the laptop at a particular angle for it to work at all...)
So I need a new tip for the PSU I have but I don't know if a) if you can buy these on their own b) where from and c) what size tip I need.
Can anybody help me please?
Many thanks for reading,
Kimberley

I'd love to buy a new laptop, can't afford it though, nor the new charger. It seems Maplin may have the bit I need which will do as a stopgap.

maplins once sold them, and probably still do0

take the lappy and the universal charger with you to maplin, make sure you get the right bit to a. fit properly and b. charge/run the lappy properly

If you could post a close up photo of the connector we could advise you what it is called and where to get it from.
I twill likely need soldering onto the cables - can you manage this?0 -
