And there was us thinking that the electricity from Scottish power was identified by its tartan electrons and that we had special meters that only allowed those through.

Well if you think it takes 36 hours to get to you, you may have one of those meters.
It does. Though you do have to wait for 36 hours before it arrives here.

i'm sorry i only suggested trying to get a better provider through an online tool that finds the cheapest energy supplier.

you want a tool that looks into the future that will tell you what energy prices from each energy suppliers will have in the future.

sorry but i don't think that exists.

I think a better suggestion, if you are a Scottish Power customer (as I am) is to wait until the other energy providers announce (or not) their price increases. I believe that the Scottish Power price rise doesn't take place until August, so visiting uSwitch will be a good idea closer to that time, not now.

And there is a tool that might be able to predict future energy prices, and funnily enough, it is Scottish. :D

It takes 36 hours to get down to Devon because the electrons, having been fed on a diet of deep fried Mars bars and Iron Bru, have difficulty in passing through the distribution system.

I think the idea is to switch & fix now before the other providers put their prices up, not wait until after they have already done it.

Yeah well, my power comes from France .. the electricity takes 2 hours off for lunch and the gas has a definite whiff of garlic . . ;)

To combat rises in energy prices, landlords should be given both a stick and a carrot to force them to upgrade the energy efficiency of their properties. The carrot could be tax incentives to put in better insulation/A+ rated boilers and white good, LED lighting and the stick could be regulations to ensure that they hit a C or higher rating on their rental poperty. The energy rating should be assessed every 5 years.

At the moment there is no incentive for landlords to have energy efficient properties as the tenant usuually pay the utility bills. The tenant has no incentive to maintain the building as they don't own them. If rental properties had to provide their energy efficiency ratings then it would allow tenants to compare properties and choose the more efficient one.

OK - old people who could have their houses insulated by grant versus all the polynesian islanders with no island any more and those billions who have less than a dollar a day and can no longer afford food because climate change is reducing output and pushing up prices...but then they are far away so why worry about them - whereas global warming all else being equal will reduce heating needs in the long run (although the poor oldies will die from heat stroke and smog instead of hypothermia).

Yes, it's a bad thing. How many old people do you want to sacrifice through hypothermia before your 'Green' gods are assuaged?
    I think....
