    Right then, here goes!

I'm a lurker, this is my first post:wave:. I found the MSE site a few years ago, but didn't venture to the forum until a few months ago. Now I'm a bit addictted and spending all my 'spare' time at work on here.

I have been meaning to introduce myself for a little while now and this seemed like the perfect opportunity. BTW great idea Lynz.

I have recently sold my flat and bought a house nice house in the country with my OH. I don't have massive debts (~£3000 on CCs) but i have been trying to pay them off for a while and not getting very far. New mortgage is smaller and better deal so i will have more money to throw at debts and payrise kicks in this month :).
I'm determined to get organised in 2007 and tackle those pesky CCs once and for all! Also going to start ebaying and OSing like crazy.

Well done to all for such a great site with tons of useful support and advice.
    Merry Christmas!

    Hi all

I was a long time luker before I made my first post and had managed to clear most of my debt from reading all the useful advice posted on here (thanks guys) :T

I have managed to get my credit card up to £630 again in the last couple of weeks  so my main goal now for 2007 is to get that down and clear what's left of my overdraft.

I hope everyone has a fantastic Christmas and best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year

Excellent thread Lynzpower  and nice to see old friends post here and all the lurkers and newbies.
I’m chuffed to see that everyone is tentatively positive for 2007. I’m looking forward to it, first time in a long time!
2007 is going to be the year when I sell my car, finish off DIYing my house, claim back bank charges and also change my mortgage. If I plan carefully and act like I am now I could be debt free by this time next year……..
I moved from one side of the country to the other to live where I do now and the one thing I wanted was a better quality of life…
It’s what you make it and I’m slowly getting there – although the debt wagon is very up and down – I feel more positive than I did pre LBM.
I have just been told as well I might get a small payrise in April 2007 and work have said there might be opportunities to do paid study for two qualifications that will open all sorts of new doors for me too.

I love this site and so many people have helped me on here – I hope from the bottom of my heart that each and everyone of you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and that 2007 brings lots of love, luck and good opportunities for all.
(Sends good vibes to all and lots of huggles)

  • Hello all,

I started with debts of almost £3500 in November last year and so far, with the help and support of everyone on here, have cleared all but £900 or so which hopefully I can clear in the next two months.

I was also told last week that I should be getting my Agenda for change payrise applied for December's paypacket (A whopping £200 or so extra per month!) with the 26 months of back-pay to be paid sometime before April (£I don't want to think about it or I'll get scared that it won't happen)

    Happy Christmas everyone!

    Kat

    P.S. Congratulations Tondella!
  • Hi everyone,

I don't post much anymore for various reasons - but I still like to check in now and again and see how you are all doing!

I had my lightbulb moment in January 2006, and have done lots of focussed work this year to clear some of the debts - including reclaiming bank charges (nearly £900), mystery shopping, selling on eBay and Amazon, sending tips to trashy magazines, using Quidco, Pigsback and iPoints, checking out my suppliers and generally being more money savvy and not wasting money on cr*p.

I'm still trudging along trying to save money and pay off debts in various ways - however there always seem to be obstacles. Finding OH's hidden debts was one which happened this autumn and made me feel like I was completly back where I started. We also have a huge mortgage and essential outgoings (in comparison to our salaries) so it is really difficult to pay off more than the minimum. I also am a strong believer that you can't put your life on hold for the debt - I have 2 really close friends getting married next year and another couple of weddings plus the usual babies and engagements (I'm assuming) and I will be making sure that I celebrate properly with my friends and family at all these occassions and not be a total skinflint.

This site and in particular the chat forums have helped me so much over the last year. I'll be popping back in early January 2007 to start the New Year with a bang, to get a new start and a big push on debt repayments.

Merry Christmas to all of you and have a money-saving New Year!

  • Lightbulb has been flickering for a while, but six months ago cut up our credit cards (OH misses so much) moved them to a low LOB and 0% for a year. Want to get rid of these within the next 2 years  but at least its not getting bigger!

Reading everyones posts is so motivating so :T all round me thinks!

Got a part time job interview tomorrow morning, working from home - admin so fingers crossed as they say - every little helps!

Heres to a challenging 2007
Proud to be dealing with our debts - We WANT to be debt free DEC 09

  • good thinking lynz,

well I am now under the £10k in debt mark, which is a welcome relief. I have managed to pay off the highest interest debts (catalogue) and paid off my sofas while they were still on 0%.

I have just changed my CC to another 0% one for a year, which is good and I am looking forward to getting this rather costly time of year out of the way so I can refocus on getting rid of my CC first and foremost and then sort my life out one way or another.

This year hasnt been as successful with getting debt free as I would have hoped, but I'm getting there slowly but surely!

I hope to get a bonus in March/April which will (fingers crossed) allow me to have a little holiday and some left over to pay off some of my card.

Hope you are all well and have a wonderful crimbo and that 2007 gets us all a little closer to being debt free

7 weeks ago I was suicidal but had some fantastic advice and support on here and hopefully starting my CCCS DMP in January, would have been sooner if LLoyds had let me take my money out to start it! So feeling much more positive and though I have HUGE debts which wont be paid off for 9 years at last I feel a bit more in control. Love Christmas but have been enjoying looking for bargains rather than my usual splurge on the CCs. I'm organising the annual carol singing in my home town usually have 150 people and serve mulled wine and mince pies but this year I'm NOT funding it as have found a sponsor.Am waiting to go into hospital to have my leg mended( It's been broken a long time and refuses to heal) and they've said before Christmas so I may well be eating my turkey from a hospital bed and missing out on the carols. My son off to the Gambia for a couple of weeks new years day ( he's very sensible with money, saves up for things where does he get that from??) and I am looking forward to his e mails and photos. Wish you all a very happy christmas and a prosperous new year and thanks for your inspiring stories.

Merry Christmas to everyone. I am still struggling along in the first stages of DFW. I had my LBM in Oct, £18k worth of debt - have reduced that to £17k and not put anymore on cc for Christmas, MOT or 2 lots of car tax, so I am doing OK. I am in the phase of feeling fed up with trying to be DF but from what I read on here it will pass. My OH and I are going to really go for reducing the debt in Jan hoping it will be clear for next Christmas. Thanks to everyone for the support !!!! XXX
  • Hmmm...only a paragrah!?! :D

Well, I'm officially undepressed, feel much better now, and sleeping again. My pionidal sinus wound has finally healed too...still not over the ex though. As far as debt goes...been doing so well, has xmas sorted by beginning of December (normally waited until that payday just before Xmas :o ). Have however had somewhat of a 'blow out' this month...and have now got a PSP and some golf clubs...£250 :o:o:o (hence the current debt total not being updated). 2007 is the year I should be debt free though....so here goes!

Good luck one and all for 2007 xxx
