Hi all
I wanted to start this thread as I know there are a few long haulers lurking not posting, lots of people who used to post a lot here dont so much now and there are loads of new people  come over the last 2 weeks!
I cant keep up!!! So I tohught id start this as a catch up for a lot of the old team, & a introduction to the newbies.
So I thought Id start this as a where are you now, what are you up to now, round robin. A short synopsis of no more that a paragraph, to let us all know where abouts on your journey you are, and how its all going for you.
Sitting comfortably? Then I'll begin
Im still on nil pay but signed on for JSA. ( not come yet) I have applied for a job at work - via redeployment due to illness, they are messing me about. I have a meeting with occ health, which should determine whether I get an interview or not. Still selling the flat, very frustrating hope to exchange soon. I currently owe about 3500, plus another 2k borrowed off folks for moving  so 5.5k all at 0% - and as soon as the new year comes Im wanting to clear that out asap.
Moodwise Im remarkably well, bored still as I need to work, frustrated with the flat sale, need a new start asap, but Im happy. Healthwise, things are OK. Looks like in 4 months, Ill have the op for them to remove the cancerous cells and that will be OK too
Cant wait for 2007 to begin!
All the best for 2007!
Anyway over to you
Lynz

Cool thread! I'm still basically in the same place that I was as Payplan and CCCs can't really help, tho they can advise. Through this I am contacting creditors and trying to arange small minimum payments until I can afford to pay more. I have done Christmas on a VERY tight budget, and feel good about it! I am looking to increase my work in the NewYear, whicjh should begin to reap benefit in March, so my plan is to keep my head above water till then. And I became a Grandma just over 3 weeks ago!!! Yay!!!! Debs.0

I'm finally in secure emplpoyment and have paid off a whack of debt with redundancy/ cash from short term contract. Next year is looking good financially, hope to be debt free by 1st april, build uo a 1 year emergency fund, then tackle mortgage. Not strictly per ML's advice (don't save if you have any debt) but it will keep my terror of unemployment under control!
Personally, might be giving it another go with ex b/f who seems to have sorted himself out... no cohabiting though!Debt free 4th April 2007.
New house. Bigger mortgage. MFWB after I have my buffer cash in place.0 -
Great idea Lynz(as usual!) Well we still have some debt to clear but seems to be under control. DH teaching in the nicest school he has ever been in, sadly only a maternity cover but great news anyway. His health seems to be finally back to normal. I am getting bettre so things are looking up.
House still needs loads of work doing, but hopefuly will get stuff sorted in the new year. Hoping to travel to see our friends during the holiday which will be nice. Much happier this year as by finding this site I no longer feel so lonley and without hope. That is all down to all of YOU.And for that I can only say from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. Happy Christmas everybody. Annie XXXXBlind as you run...aware you were staring at the sun.

Morning all :santa2:
Since we joined up just after last xmas we have made some really huge inroads into our debts and (hopefully) sorted ourselves out at last..its only taken us 20 years
This xmas we have spent only what we saved/had available rather than on the plastic and boy does it feel good!!!
I am really looking forward to 2007 and making further vast chunks of debt disappear and looking forward to seeing how all my fellow nerds are getting along
Even if you're not able to post I hope you will be able to find some help and support here through others posting about their experiences..I know I lurked for ages at first!! Do say hello we don't bite :rotfl:
Lastly I would like to say a huge thankyou not only to Martin for making this site available to us but to each and every one of you who posts here you are making such a difference to peoples lives just having someone to talk to sometimes means so much...
Here's to a wonderful Christmas and a very happy new year for all0 -
Morning Lynz and everyone :hello:
We are pretty much in the same position as a couple of months ago  DH's job situation is settled now, fingers crossed no more redundancies,he is on the best wage he has ever hadI'm no longer working due to my health, things are getting much worse and don't think I will ever get back to work, waiting to see consultants again next week and will see about disability benefits.
We are still paying Payplan £114/month.tried to increase payments, but bills have gone up and now can't afford more  debt has reduced very slightly, but we will get there
Best of all DH and I have eachother and the kids,we are happy and life goes on,merry christmas everyone and best wishes for 2007 :santa2:Debt at highest £102k
Lightbulb moment march 2006
Debt free october2017 :j
Finally sleeping easy in my bed :A0 -
Brilliant Idea Lynzpower! Im not that old on here (posting wise) but really struggling to keep up with posts and threads as they move so quickly and then I forget what they were called. (anytips on how to manage this?)
Lurked for ages until the end of november did SOA have started hacking away at unnecessary expenditure, applying for bank charges, increasing my knowledge raking in odd bits of money that have been lying around. selling books and doing christmas on a budget where NO borrowing whatsoever is ALLOWED!!!!
I aim to clear at least 3 cards before February 07
So far so good :j:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j0 -
Cool thread, thanks Lynz,
Well, when I joined in March I had almost £10,000 of debt
At the end of April I received an annual bonus of £5,000 (after tax) and so obviously this made a huge dent (but didn't pay all the debt off as it had in previous years). I now owe £1,640 but this is all on 0%. I have savings (£800, but I have earmarked £400 for Christmas) and a controllable budget in place, I no longer panic when my car insurance is up for renewal. If my annual bonus does not cover the credit card then I am confident I will have enough in my savings to pay it anyway. Next year is going to be the first year I will have anything to show for my bonus.Saving for an early retirement!0 -
Hi all,
I'm back! Well last couple of months have been manic, debt busting was going great, though with the christmas preparations I seem to have gone a bit ary. I know I know, should have saved etc and my only excuse is that my LBM wasn't till June so have had less time to save! I know not good enough.
Anyway I feel like I'm getting on top of the debt now, my spending habits have changed and my understanding of my money and spending habits is far better. Going to start applying for new jobs in January, hopefully will then be more financially secure as my income at the moment although suffiecient doesn't allow for any extras. As for the moment I should be effectively debt free (bar student loans) by Feb.
Hope everyone is well, and hi to all the newbies, this place is amazing, and even though I haven't been on for a while I still use everything I've learnt on here everyday.

Hi
I'm a long-time lurker, whose lbm was last August. Right now I'm reflecting on the fact that, one year in, we have paid off more than £10k of debt as well as paying for our wedding, which was this September and all i had ever wanted it to be. This is the second Christmas that we have budgeted for, with some additional money raised through ebay. OH and I have set spending limits of £50 each on pressies for each other, and we've already bought gifts for our family. For the second year in a row i haven't had to finance Christmas from my birthday money and January's wage packet (I get paid an early pay in December). Thanks to budgeting I'll be holding back my January pay until the last day in December, which means I can afford to go sale shopping! I'm really enjoying the run up to Christmas and it's all thanks to MSE! Merry Christmas everyone!Debt Oct 2005: £32,692.94
Current debt: £14,000.00
Debt free date: June 20080
