They'll just reserve the excess on your credit card and then cancel it when you return the car if everything is ok with the car.

Is this common practice - reserving the excess on your credit card when you collect the car?

Yes, they aren't going to let you drive the car away without it.

it's never happened to me in 10 years - however i've only ever hired in spain and have always booked with brokers who offer "fully inclusive with zero excess" hire terms. I wouldn't risk doing otherwise, personally.

Hi melb, I also will be renting in Spain - what hire companies do you use that offer fully inclusive with zero excess?

    Thanks

hi armaghgirl I usually use carjet but last time I used rentalscout. Just make sure you check ALL details before you confirm with any company and I mean click on everything that's "clickable" and is still in doubt ring them up.
