This absolutely proves that you have to be in it to win it :)

I remember when I used to work at EE (was orange back then - they kindly made me redundant) I started entering comps - every day, pretty much all my spare time. Probably about 2k to 3k a month. Had a few nice wins, max win a 200 quid ski suit for my oldest son.

Then, one of the higher managers entered once for a I think Gadget show comp, 1 entry, 1st comp and won I think 25k prize bundle.

Don't begrudge the win (much) but goes to show that all you need is to be the name they pick.

It just boils down to pure luck.

And, even for all the monotony of filling forms, clicking NO NO NO to newsletters, extra info and such like, it's still so damn addictive.

When you get the postie knocking on the door with a random parcel that wont fit through the letter box, - don't know about you lovely people, but I really do love ripping it opening and finding out what it is.

  • Hi,

For those that have won an ITV competition, how were you advised of winning - phone call/voice mail/email?

I'm concerned that will try to call and if I miss the call, they'll choose another winner.

    Thanks all

They call, the number of times they call depends on the T&C's for each competition, details on this thread (most are "general contact")

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4866958

    Contact procedures (June 2013)
    5. Winner Contact
5.1.General contact: The winner will be contacted as soon as practicable on or after the draw date or judging date (as appropriate) as indicated in the interaction information. Reasonable efforts will be made to contact a winner on the phone number provided when entering the promotion or such other method of contact deemed appropriate by the Promoter in its sole discretion in the circumstances. Unless the prize is time critical or time sensitive, the Promoter will try to contact the winner over a 4 week period.

5.2.Time critical: Where the prize must be taken up within 3 months of the close date of the competition, the competition will be considered “time critical”. As a winner needs to be found before the time to take up the prize passes, the interaction information will indicate the date when the winner will be contacted and the Promoter will contact such winner on the phone number (or other method of contact (if appropriate)) they provided, calling three times in a three-hour daytime period or as indicated in the interaction information.

5.3.Time sensitive: Where the prize must be taken up by a date which is more than 3 months but less than 12 months after the close date of the competition, unless otherwise stated in the interaction information the Promoter will contact the winner on the phone number (or other method of contact (if appropriate)) they provided, calling at different times on weekdays and at least once at the weekend over a two week period or as indicated in the interaction information.

5.4.In the event that the winner cannot be contacted or successful contact is not made within the time periods set out in clauses 5.1 to 5.3 above (as applicable) or if the winner fails to provide an address for delivery of the prize or fails to meet any of the eligibility requirements or is otherwise unable to comply with the interaction terms and conditions, this may result in forfeiture of the prize and the Promoter reserves the right to disqualify that entrant (without further liability to that entrant) and offer the prize to the next eligible entrant and thereafter until a winner is found.

5.5.Any entrant and/or winner must comply with any directions given to him or her by the Promoter, prize provider(s) and/or their agents and with all relevant laws, rules and regulations, restrictions, itinerary, and where applicable, compliance with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code. Failure to comply with instructions, itineraries, rules, restrictions, requirements, laws and guidelines may result in an invalid entry and/or forfeiture of the prize.

I won £3k on a Real Deal comp last year. I only ever enter online. I don't even watch the show, I get the details of all the ITV comps via this forum. I was contacted by phone two months after the closing date.

I think the time critical comps are unfair, as they try three times within a three hour period and they don't leave a message with a number to call back. Due to the nature of my job I have to have my phone switched off and I never use my phone when I'm driving. All the ITV comps request an email address so I don't see why they can't email the winners if they can't get hold of them by phone.

They, quite rightly, do not contact by e-mail as that would give an unfair advantage to free web entries over paid for phone and text ones.

(if you were contacted 2 months after the closing date of a real deal comp then you were almost certainly not the first person they tried to contact)
  • Just to let you all know, the ITV Winners Thread is [thread=4393093]here[/thread] and lists all the winners (that have given permission to be listed). We're up to 116 people so far :T
