Summer work for teachers?

Evening all
I agree with all about teachers jobs - have friends who are teachers and know that most of their holidays are genuinely taken up with marking and planning and preparing for the new terms. Teachers don't make up their lessons on the spot - it's weeks and sometimes months of preparation! I am currently a classroom support worker and LOVE my job but I know when I go home that's my job done for the day and many of my friends have advised me to be 100% certain that I want to move to the next step to teach because of the huge difference it would make to my lifestyle. My sons are 13 and 17 and by the time I qualify they will both be adults and it would be the right time for meI also feel that I can bring life skills and years of experience as a special needs teaching assistant within Primary, Secondary and FE into my teaching. The thing I don't want to teach for the money, there are tons of jobs out there that do actually pay better - sounds strange but I feel that teaching is what I'm supposed to be doing, I want to make a difference.
Anyway back to OPCan I ask - how long have you been doing Avon and how do you find it please? Talking of working with children through summer I know there are a couple of places out there who need people to work with children and young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities in a youth club kind of setting. They are paying jobs and provide fantastic experience to add to your CV and own learning experiences
Many thanx to whoever posted regarding something similar - you have reminded me to contact someone about this for myself
phildo - I am well impressed with your OH's routine
I would love some advice of where to start with regards to training myself if anyone can offer please
Good luck dingdong

After all you are being paid for the six week holiday already. With the amount of holidays teachers get over the year and the chance to take on private students after school hours and bank teaching you have the opportunity to near double your income over the year. Not many other professions get this opportunity.
Silly. People have to pay for their own kids' care at some point - you seem to be suggesting that teachers are providing some form of childcare (unfortunate misunderstanding of the education system).
Pay for your kids in the hols I say. Its your responsibility, obviously.1373/100000 -

Our pay is split over 12months so although we recieve pay in the holidays its due to a reduced rate of pay term time. I thought teachers may be the same. Holidays and weekends I am a childrens support worker. I dont think teachers are given enough credit their job is certainly not 9-3 as some presume.
Correct. Teachers aren't paid for holidays at all, they're paid for their 1265 hours of directed time over 195 days. This is then split equally into 12 monthly payments ( only used to be 11 payments and didn't get an August pay packet until 20 years ago) Any work they do out of that time ( which time does include inset days, school days, staff meetings, parents' meetings and preparation time at the beginning and end of the day) e.g marking at home, working in holidays is unpaid and voluntary, but we still have to do it as otherwise we couldn't do our jobs properly!
Quote....A teacher is required to work, ‘such reasonable additional hours as may be needed to enable him/her to discharge effectively his professional duties’.0 -
I contacted a foster agency for full time work, they kept my CV on file and later called me and offered me an interview for a casual position which worked out well with my new job in school. Childrens charities, councils and foster agencys need support workers although i know due to funding cuts our agency is no longer recruiting.0
