Climbing bean sowing

Hi guys

Am still experimenting growing different varieties of stuff to see what grows well in the garden and what I like most so I can get it spot on next year.

Now I have done plenty of dwarf beans and runners which are out but I just had a thought today, I havent done and climbing beans. Now I really want to try some so I can see which is best for next year but was wondering if it was still ok for this year, not too late kinda thing.

Also if it is ok any varieties that you can suggest for this time of year or are they all fine to go?

They should all be fine. Tiny bit late, but not too bad at all.

Many of us that grow beans sow a later crop to follow when our first crop is past it's best. This makes the season for beans - runner and french - last longer. French beans was a first for me last year, and the whole family (yes the whole family, can you believe it!!) loved them.

Yes, not too late at all. I'll be sowing more this week.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I've heard alot of people say this, never quite been able to understand it. My climbing french beans go right through to the first frosts, never stop.

Thats what they told me on the local allotment, but mine run out of steam so I sow 3rd week of june to see me through to my first frosts.
But this year I've added some manure to see if that keeps them going a bit longer.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys.

I just been looking around online and tgere definitly are a lot of varieties.

I fancy growing a couple of Italian ones but I have also got a spare pot for an MSE recommendation. So which quick to crop variety do you think I should go for?

For a newbie to CFBs - try Borlotti...you can't go wrong with those for dried beans and Cobra for the green pods. I have over 100 different FB varieties but so many are quite rare so at this stage, so for what you can easily get.

I'd 2nd or 3rd Cobra, disagree on the Borlotti though tbh, low return compared to Cobra.

I reckon it depends alot on the variety, what do you grow?
