Finally went for the EDF v2 (Sep 2012) via moneysupermarket this morning.

Was a tough choice between that and the EDF Fixed Price 2014, which for me worked out £84 more expensive per year (£1,020 versus £1,104 based on KWh usage)... but still 31% and 41% more than paying now !!

The other option was Scottish Power's new Direct October 2012 (non-fixed), working out at £937 (20% increase), which apparently isn't affected by the current round of price increases.

Thanks all for the advice on timings. I'll make sure to do meter readings and request a bill next weekend...

I eventually succumbed to the same deal. It is a 20% uplift which I can just about put up with begrudgingly. Going to 13/14 would have made it 40% and I just don't see why I should pay that over the next 18months just in case.

It was the same for me as the cheapest(ish) variable Eon SOL7 (after switching cash back) and it is fixed for 15 months.

Not that I want too but I reckon we could take a hit of 25% at renewal and still be v. close to the 2014 deal if we had taken that today. Who knows we may only actually beat it;)

I will switch after 1st July. Bills are low in the summer,
so it makes very little difference. In fact, the fixed rate is bound to be higher than the standard tariff I will be on, so what's the hurry?

For me the Eon variable default tariff was/is spot on to the EDF v2 Fix. Might not be 4 weeks down the line.

The fix is £40 cheaper with cash back - just makes me fee l better:)

What I find strange is that they(the suppliers) seem ambivalent to it all.

It costs more to attract new customers than retain good ones.
