DO you have anything else you can sell?

Can you get a second job, working evenings/Weekends?

I would probably speak to your parents, it won't be easy but you have got creditors with higher interest you need to pay. They might not be happy, but at the end of the day, they are you parents they aren't going to dis-own you.

Are you going to speak to the bank aboutgetting an Authorized overdraft?

Hi Upanddown, I don’t normally post on this board but reading your thread I just had to offer some help.

I think you need to do a proper SOA, which includes things like budgeting for non-monthly costs such as car maintenance and xmas presents and then see how much you really have left. If you don’t do this it’s unlikely you’ll ever get straight.

Do the SOA as prudently as you can – so no money for lunch at work (I know you’ve done that) and minimum ‘spends’ for the pub, etc. Then you’ll get the real surplus.

I think you’ll need to either increase your income or go on a DMP. I suspect that if the majority of your debt hadn’t been to your parents people would have suggested this earlier. If that’s the case you need to get a new bank account and close the old one so no payday lenders can take any money and then set up a payment agreement with your creditors that you can afford.
Usually you’d ask all creditors to freeze interest and split your surplus pro-rata between them.

MAKE SURE YOU DIG OUT THE PAPERWORK THAT YOU SIGNED WHEN YOUR PARENTS LENT YOU THE MONEY – YOU KNOW, THE ONE WITH THE DATE THEY LENT IT TO YOU AND THAT YOU WOULD PAY BACK £300 A MONTH OR WHATEVER THAT YOU ALL SIGNED.

So, if you did a DMP you’d suddenly have enough money to pay for essential living expenses plus your creditors would be getting a fair amount from your surplus each month, and since your parents are the largest creditor they’d prob be getting their £100 anyway.
You can try to set up a DMP on your own, but it’s usually easiest to go through a non-fee intermediary like CCCS. It’ll trash your credit rating but I doubt it’s healthy anyway.

Anyway, do that full SOA and see what it’s like. If you definitely need to go on a DMP then just don’t pay non-essential creditors this month and tell them you’re waiting for an appointment with CCCS when they call. They can’t have what you haven’t got I’m afraid.

    Hope that helps.

thanks, i'm going to make a few phonecalls tonight.

i have nothing left to sell.

i will also make a new soa and post it up.

I just want to be able to pay my monthly bills and save some money for the future??

edit, i would like to try and sort this out myself, i will speak to my parents and see if i can reduce my payments to them and speak to the companies i have debts with and offer what i can afford? at least show willing to pay them as much as is physically possible.

    SOA to follow tonight.

    another stressful month to follow!!!

i'm at an all time low today!

just had a call from my mum to say baliffs had left a card at her house whilst she was in the shower..

its for an unpaid paring ticket issued by the local council, basically a £20 parking ticket for not moving my car in a timed disk zone has resulted in £339 !!!!!!! i disputed the ticket with the council because i was in a meeting at work i couldnt get out to move my car into another zone afer the 2hours was up.

Anyway they would not back down (even when i proved that they had let a girl off from my offive for not even displaying a disk at all!!!

i have recently moved out of my parents house and not had any letters from them previously, although they say that they have called before.

i rang the mobile number from the card they left and spoke to a rather blunt young guy who demanded the full payment or they will cease goods from my property? i told them that i do not live there and did not give them my new address, just a contact telephone number.

I told him that i cannot pay the balance as i only got paid last week and now only have £25 left for the month. He then said that my reg number has been regestered with the ANPR cameras to pull me over and cease my vehicle! can they do this?

I explained about my other debts and the situation i'm in and asked if they could help me out. the best he could do is offer me 4 weeks to pay the balance in full and said he will not visit my mums again, as you can imagine she was furious with me, they have bailed me out too many times already.

I'm on the verge of an panic attack and can feel myself breaking down as i type. i suffer from depression and actually feel worse than i ever have before.

If it wasnt for my children i would happily drive off the nearest cliff and sort myself out for good!

I just don't know what to do? i just cant see any light at the end of the tunnel!

  • One thing I can suggest is that you go to see someone at Citizens' Advice. We did last month and it really helped us see where we were going wrong (ie not budgeting like we should have been) and all advice they give you is free.

£28 a month for your TV licence seems a bit steep, ours is £12. You could also look at getting a better paid job - don't feel guilty about leaving your current employer as you need to look out for Number 1. Unless this would mean you could be worse off, regarding child maintenance etc...

what will they do to help? i know where i'm going wrong, i block things out and ignore them if i don't like them and end up 1 million times worse off.

I am like a child when it comes to looking after my finances and and most of my adult life to be honest.

I just feel like such a failure, i'm lucky to have the job that i do at the moment, i don't know what else i could possibly do that would increase my income?

i just feel so low today and i know its gonna get worse, i'm so ashamed of myself!

  • ok upanddown. Firstly do you need your car to do your job? If you do the baliffs cannot take your car. keep your car parked somewhere away from your home address to be on the safe side. I think Ras is an expet in this field so send him a pm.

I don't have time to got through everything a the moment as I am just going out but will log on & see if I can make some suggestions to help you out when I come back.

Try to keep your chin up, no need to feel ashamed everyone makes mistakes (and lots of us repeat them repeatedly!) you can sort this out I promise x

  • Can I get some advice please?
Hello Everyone, sorry for posting in here but I couldn't find the right way to do it.

Ok, 5 years ago i had a home improvement grant from a council totaling 18k, this incl kitchen extn, d/g, loft ins etc etc. The amount I had to pay back to council was/is 13k. The grant is interest free for first 5 years (now just up) and I can't currently pay it back (and no, I haven't saved either:-)). The interest now is circa 3.3% - so that's not too bad. Also credit rating and late mortgage payments etc over five years mean I cannot get loan to pay back - which is fine currently.

However, due to a change in my circumstances, (engaged with two kids), i want to know if i am able to officially move in with my fiancee into her housing assocation flat?? There is another child on the way but i have had to officially live at my house with the council grant as i can't let it whilst i have the council charge against property.

Has anyone got any idea's? My house is unsuitable due to size and layout (dangerous stairs etc)..... Can I get a "trusted" lodger in there full time and i visit fleetingly. Can I just leave it empty?? Do I have to sell???

    All responses welcome!!

    Thank you
