Talktalk are universally recognised as very poor. Anyone else would be better. Are you on LLU?0

This includes XL TV with a free V+ box and XL phone.tinktinktinkerbell wrote: »what is your speed?tinktinktinkerbell wrote: »are you capped? if so how much a monthRemember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.0 -

Dial 17070 on your phone. If all you get read back to you is your phone number then you are on TT's LLU (local loop unbundled). If you get other options (e.g. option 2 for the quiet line test) then you are still on BT's IPStream technology.
(The other way of telling is - are you paying extra for broadband, like £15-ish per month - or is broadband "free"? If it's "free" then you are LLU).
Put your phone number and/or postcode into https://www.samknows.com and you'll find out which other providers are available on your exchange - especially for LLU providers. As with anything in life - you get what you're prepared to pay for. I'm with BE and pay for the Unlimited package. I also have landline with then on the Anytime package. My typical monthly bill is around £34 which includes rental, Anytime calls package, chargeable calls (e.g. to mobiles) and unlimited broadband.
(Whilst BE have a fair usage policy, NOBODY has been ejected for the amount they have downloaded in a month. Some people have done several hundred GB in a month without any problems. The only people (very few) that have been sanctioned have been those that have used their accounts for email SPAMing).0 -
If you are going over your limit, then install metering software (plenty of free programs are available) and monitor your usage. The either cut it down or upgrade your tariff to suit your actual usage. It's not rocket science.
If you think that you are not using all that bandwidth, the I suggest you check your wireless encryption is secure (not open or still using WEP). If it's not, someone else may be using it for you.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
whos your ISP?
AOL (Carphone Warehouse) - I know, I know...
how much do you pay a month for it?
£14.99
what is your speed?
448Mbits up and about 2000MBits down.
do you have a monthly limit? if so what?
No hard monthly limit, but I think there's a 40GByte soft limit.

40GBytes is quite a lot. I don't have a TV and make a lot of use of the various catchup services and use about 30GBytes a month.
Net Meter is a good application for monitoring how much data you've slurped, but it only records how much the computer it's installed on uses. See http://www.softpedia.com/get/Network-Tools/Bandwidth-Tools/NetMeter.shtml.
Most routers also keep a running total of how much data has been down/uploaded, but tend to forget it between reboots.0 -

Well, maybe there's a little wishful thinking there.
