I have an ASRock k7Upgrade-880 mobo with an AMD Athlon xp 2100 CPU. I think the CPU is kaput, I've been told there are no decent CPU's to fit this board anymore only an older Sempron CPU which is a step backwards, so I need to replace CPU, MOBO and MEMORY does anybody know of a decent CPU that would fit or offer any suggestions. Thanks.

well i have an amp xp 2600 in my pc (k7) - im sure you must beable to get a new one still these days
I would bet that Motherboard will take up to a 3200 xp socket A chip (worth checking for spec on google or in the manual!)
I did just have a quick check at my usual places and none of them had any xp processors in stock - it you stick at it though there must be one out there!!
You are right though a sempron is a down grade from what you have!0 -

AMD don't make 32 bit chips any more as far as I know, I've been looking for xp 3200 for a while and I'm afraid only place I could find them was on ebay (mostly secondhand) for over inflated price. I've personally given up and will replace entire motherboard when I have finances to next upgrade."She is quite the oddball. Thanks for the replies.
Can anyone recommend a good deal for a MOBO CPU & MEMORY package.

I'm surprised no body else asked this, but what makes you think the cpu is kaput?0 -
I assume this is your MB: K7Upgrade-880 which has a socket 462 (Socket A).
One of the few places left for buying Socket A CPUs is MicroDirect see here for a Sempron 2800 for £35ish (although they seem to be out of stock at the moment). I've used MicroDirect before and are very good.
Hope that helps.- = I also recognise the Robins and beep for them = -0 -
I've had someone look at it and they thought that was the problem the PC kept refusing to start the boot cycle the cpu fan was clogged up and the cpu was overheating.0

Have you replaced the fan? Could be just the fan, id try that first its a cheaper option! However you do tend to get fans with processors unless you buy OEM versions!
Semprons are not older than AMD XP processors either so its hardly a step backwards!
Microdirect are a decent company i use them to buy my equipment for work! (IT manager) give em a buzz and see what they can offer you! They do some cheap memory as well!Debt at lightbulb moment £9500Credit Card NOTHING! :T :TALL DEBTS PAID OFFProud to be dealing with my Debt!

Before you spend any money you should clean the fan. Then switch the computer on, with the lid off, and see if the fan is working.
Does the computer get so far then switch it's self off? If yes this is a classic symptom of an overheating cpu. Usually due to the fan not working.0 -

I'd consider it a step backwards, they're a lot slower than athlon XPs (similar architecture but heavily cut down), a sempron 2600+ is actually slower than an athlon xp 2500+, besides which AMD no longer make semprons for socket A either."She is quite the oddball. agreed sempron was the celeron equivalant of a pentium 4
ie. a budget cut down processor0
