Best PAYG sim for use from Europe
Options
I've got a contract Orange phone with roaming on but have no intention of using their bundles, unless someone knows better?
Basically, my phone is unlocked and accepts any network. Indeed I went to Cyprus last year and am going there again later this year and I used my Orange PAYG sim to avoid silly bills on my return.
I'll likely take the Orange PAYG sim again (you can buy a bundle of 100 texts for around £5 if my memory serves me right). I don't need to phone home so text message bundles are fine but it would obviously be better if I can get some inclusive call allowance too.
Furthermore, being on an Android phone an inclusive data package would also be a bonus, not least because there's a lack of downloadable maps for Cyprus.
I'm sure I'll manage without the GPS but I just wondered if you guys knew of a good sim deal for people playing abroad?

There are two mobile networks in Cyprus
Cyta-Voda http://www.cytamobile-vodafone.com/
and MTN-Arreeba http://www.mtn.com.cy/index.cfm/id/home/lang/english
Both have very similar coverage and charges
We have one of each for our house there! The payg credit lasts a year if you don't top up, so it would be ok for when you went next year!!!0 -
WorldSIM PAYG offers 25p/min calls and 11p/text across most of Europe and North America, a UK mobile number and no charge for incoming calls when roaming. It is PAYG but does, I think, have a £1/month fee charged too.

Not going to beat a local SIM, but might be of interest.0 -
Has anyone else any suggestions for cheapest PAYG sim for emergency use (normally use work phone but can't take it abroad!) in an unlocked mobile to be used in Cyprus. Prefer UK one as would like it available on landing in Cyprus and then could use any leftover credit here. Thanks.
Edit - @J B do you know if sims for the networks you mention could be bought in Paphos airport? Can any excess credit be used in the UK? Ta.0 -

Indeed, I have not been for 3yrs now though, but text to the UK was 1c at the time, calls were cheap, and looking at the link data looks cheap to at €9/200mb which is plenty for a holiday.

As far as I know Cyta or MTN sims are not available at the airport. They are widely available thoughout the island though - at kiosks (periptero) which you will see everywhere, in phone shops and at supermarkets. Think (from memory) you can buy a sim with credit for €15. Minimum top-up of €5 on MTN lasts a year. As already mentioned mobile calls in Cyprus with a local sim are v cheap (8c per min?), and pay-as-you-talk bundles include some texts which can be used within Cyprus or UK.0
