which euro type?

Good afternoon

im going to spain next sunday and i've started to look around for euro's

i've been to all the high street travel agents that have all stated the following

"it is being increasingly more expensive and difficult to exchange travellers checks in spain"

i want to transfer £1000 into euro's

so that leaves me with 3 options

euro cash, but not insured best current rate i've seen is 1.11

travel money card, not keen on taking another debit card than i have to (apparently 2euro per transaction of any size, if the cash machines accept it.....)

hsbc debit card 2% fee per transaction upto £5

so not sure which to do, i've been told that taking uk money there to exchange probably wont pay off, due to how crap the euro is.

so any body have any advice?

I always take at least a couple of hundred currency from M&S / the post office for the best rates - E1.11 isn't brilliant but the rate has been worse this year! - and then at least £200 in sterling just in case. I refuse to pay for withdrawng cash, you can also get stung by cc charges and exchange rate fluctuatiions so tend to always use cash abroad, which ironically is the exact opposite of what I do at home! I do always ensure that I book accomodation with a reliable safe.

I always find that I spend less money than expected. often banking all of my sterling contingency on my rtn.

    Enjoy your hols!

Only if you are a tourist.
All the major countries are trying to lower their currencies in order to get more competitive in the export market.

Anyway Phil_GT. as Stilltheone says, the Travelex Cash Passport Globe is a very competitive all round card to have. Your money stays in GB£s untill point of sale or ATM withdrawal. You are then converted to Mastercard rate, minus a 1.49% fee. This equates to an "as good as you will get" exchange rate.
