Garden Help Please

Non Posts: 6 Forumite
Hi all, looking for a bit of advice – we have a moderately steep rear garden, which slopes down towards the back of our house, the lawn area is sopping wet with a constant stream of water cascading down the existing path. Next door neighbour has the same problem and we are both getting fed up of dirt being washed down and deposited on our seating area.
We both had no water problems until 6-7 years ago when our rear neighbour built a garden pond, which he is adamant is not leaking. Any suggestions as to who we can approach to identify the source of the water?

Many thanks

Are you in an area with natural springs? Any building work could have altered the water course.

If it was the pond leaking it would have to be massive and filled up daily to create a cascade of water, so it's not that.

Maybe they had some hard landscaping done at the same time and rather than rain going into the soil its now draining off into your garden?
Could a mains water pipe have been damaged when the pond went in? old ones will burst of their own accord too.
I'd try the water board, they will have plans of the pipes in your area.

If none of the above then can a soakaway be put at the top of your garden?

    Thanks for the replies
A soakaway is already in the plans for when we revamp the garden
Hadn't thought about mains water pipes will get in touch with water board to see if they can help.
Going to climb on shed roof to see how big the pond is!

for some reason when you said the water was following the path- i read it as there was a path at the back of your and your neighbours garden that the water ran onto then into your respective gardens:o.

does the garden with the pond slope downwards to yours so you both have a lower spot ?
I know patios etc cause this kind of problem as the water runs off downwards, the only other way is if the pond is steeply sloped but with the lack of rain lately would have thought most people would be suffering from a lack of water not an excess.

I hope it has a strong roof!

Before you fall through the roof have a look to see if hard landscaping has been put down too.

If they or anyone has had hard landscaping done then they may of hit a drain. also if all the gardens have paving slabs then the water has no where else to go. I would make a bog garden or water feature at the top of your garden and use it to your advantage.
