£5/month contracts gone
Orange's £5/month contract phone deal, launched in June 2009, was the lowest of its kind. With a very basic phone and 50 mins / 50 texts it certainly wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but appealed to the don't-want-to-top-up low user who prefer a monthly bill.
The EU have since banned this deal (as it was a 36 month contract) and the only other competitor deal - TalkMobile's 50mins/50texts deal on a 24 month contract - has now also been withdrawn.
Talkmobile have also withdrawn their £5 SIM only, too, which has 100mins 100 texts and 100MB.
The low user who prefers a monthly bill over topping up is facing fewer and fewer choices.
In fact, even with SIMonly, most providers now only start at £10, with very few now available below that (cashback deals aside).

If you use an Orange payg sim and then call retentions they will offer you a £5 month plan. I got one for my wife a week back.
They offered her, 100 minutes, unlimited text and data (500 meg) on sim only for £5 a month for 18 months. . .0 -
Recently bought an Orange San Francisco on payg for my son and £5 per month for 100 mins, unlimited texts and 500MB sounds perfect for him.
How do I get to Orange retentions and how do I get them to offer me the same deal?0 -
450 from the phone, then the option to 'leave Orange' and ask for your pac code, they pass you to retentions then.
There's no guarantee they're offer you the same deal, it's based on how long you've been with them and how much you've topped up by in that time. But they should be able to offer you something along those lines.0 -
Thanks Jon 01.
He's not been with Orange long so perhaps I'll leave it a month or two and phone and ask what deal they can come up with.0 -
T-mobile is offering 5 quid contracts. 100 min & texts, unlimited internet and one of their boosters. Also with a free phone across a 24 month contract.0

I am pretty sure they don't offer this to new customers.
Chitter-chatter (t-mobile) offer 100+100 for £6 (rolling contract)0 -
It was a retention deal to be honest when I called them up. I was not a long term or high value customer tho. They may offer it if you call them.0

I know its not strictly a contract but Giffgaff do a £5 per month option called 'Hokey Cokey' and you can set this to be auto topped up from a bank account
You get
60 Mins
300 Texts
Currently internet is free too but that may change soon
Plus for every minute of incoming calls you recieve you get an extra minute of outgoing calls.
If anyone would like a giffgaff sim please send me a PM and i'll send you one which will give you £5 free credit (and earn me a referral credit) or you can just order one from www.giffgaff.com if you dont like referral links
