I asked today what i could expect for a deal, of broadband only.
Virgin: What are you going to use it for?
Me: Internet, emails, facebook, download a film now and then.
Virgin: How many films a week?
Me: Um, 1 or 2
Virgin: Well thats 30 meg, its about £30 per month, plus £40 installation
Me:  do you have anything cheaper?
Virgin: (shaking head) No.......er, .....yes there is a 20 meg.....
Me: Now i don't trust you, makes me think what else your hiding.... so i walked away
No sale.

If they are commission based then they will try even harder for a sale.. even if they realise they have not got what your looking for. But still they try *sigh*
He was, i don't need 30 MB for a film or 2 a week, 10 MB is fine, their loss for not being honest since i know what MB is and what is needed, tried selling me way way over the top speeds.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
Are you sure you know what MB is?
MB = Megabyte
A two hour film is around about 700MB
Internet download speed is measured in Mbps...If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

Its a massive own goal for the comms industry that their most popular non-telephone product has two main specifications: Speed and data limit and both have a unit expressed as em bee.
Unsurprisingly the subtlety of MB v Mbs (often written as Mb) is lost on, probably, 80% of their customers.
In this case, I think we can be pretty sure that OP is talking about speed and thus his/her complaint is valid. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -
Why be a spoilsport???If it looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a small aquatic bird of the family anatidae on our hands

What has whether its 1 or 2 films a week got to do with your connection speed? Unless he was talking that you would need 30GB a month download limit?0

That's the whole point.
It has nothing to do with the connection speed once you get past a certain threshold which all Virgin cable packages easily manage.
The salesman was trying to con OP into a much more expensive package than needed. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

He was talking about speed. Wanted to sell me a ferrari when a fiesta would have been perfectly fine, if you see what i mean.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
Why didn't you have a look on their website? All the packages, speeds and prices are on there........0

They're as bad as TalkTalk. I had a conversation with one of their doorstep salesmen the other day........
TT Rep.."Good afternoon gorgeous, don't worry, I'm not selling anything"
Me: "I highly doubt that and please don't use sexist terms when you're speaking to me"
TTR..."Do you use broadband services?"
Me: "Who wants to know?"
TTR...(still smiling, despite my scowling, definitely not gorgeous expression)..."Did you know that everyone in your street is getting their broadband for free?"
Me: "Ha ha ha ha, yeah, I don't think so. Please go away"
TTR: "You don't know what you're missing out on"
Me: "Let me guess. Rubbish service, rubbish customer support, incorrect bills and nothing but hassle when I want to leave. No thanks!"
TTR: Can I just leave you my number in case you change your mind?"
Me: *Sound of door slamming in his face*
:mad::mad::mad:"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
