Is the property in England/Wales and was this an assured shorthold tenancy?
Did the LL have an inventory/condition report carried out at check-in, signed by you?
Did you report the damp in writing?
Is the deposit protected by a scheme?

I was using the generic 'he' may_fair.

Though to be honest I just assumed from the routine relevance and accuracy of your posts you must be a man. Still can't quite believe.......
