Can we report sellers selling copied dvd's

Hi
Thanks for all the replies, not checked ebay yet to see if its still available
Each to their own when it comes to buying copies Dvd's or Cd's, but I thought it was against ebay rules.
Ive brought disc's before which have stated "back up" (posh name for copy), which I dont have a problem with, as I know what I was buying, at least they listed it in their description, but when the actual seller admits they are copies - mmmmm - Im left wandering.
I never begrudge in people listing things to make a "few quid", but what come back do we have if the the "copy" is a crap copy, would they be quick enough to refund.
Im no miss high n mighty by any standards, nor perfect. By listing this item on ebay, its just more cosier than standing on a car boot stall flogging copies, only difference is - there is more of a risk with trading standards doing their rounds and getting caught.
Thanks for the discussion -Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -
They should be reported... it is unfair to unsuspecting buyers!!
Most people selling fakes will say 'Any questions please ask' and then confirm they are copies, which is ok if you can spot the signs of a definite fake.
But there are so many people that dont know how to spot this, and just dont realise and so dont ask the seller! (Sellers are no allowed to blatantly advertise an item is a copy as it is is illegal.... note the word Illegal!)
Imagine for example parents buy a dvd for xmas for a child which they really want and receive it only to realise it is a poor copy and they cant give it to the child, or the child is upset. Its really out of order!!0 -
eBay is about to change regarding possible counterfeit goods. Soon any item appearing on their counterfeit list will not be listable on 1 or 3 day auctions. Some regions (China, Hong Kong) will not be able to list the items at all, and there will also be other region related restrictions.
Also regular sellers of such items will also have their auctions examined to see if the seller is authorised to sell those items.0 -

This was my intension for my DD, she's not asked for a lot, and when she asked for this - i thought why not? Be a nice surprise as its on her list for Santa.
I would have been mortified if the copy was un-watchable, and being so close to Xmas, the return/refund wont be quick either.
As much as Im a regular user of ebay, buying & selling, its a shame that there are scams, and worse scams like these, that spoil it for genuine & honest people.
Cant wait for the changes to take effect. Sooner the betterHi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -

Sadly that is true! It would be a shame for your daughter to get something that is not genuine!
The best thing to do if you really want to get a bargain from Ebay is to ensure that the item picture is one that has been taken in someones house, you know, an item that has clearly been photographed, not one of those that have a promotional picture taken from the internet. Make sure you can see exactly what you are buying, the clearer the better!
If the seller makes a big point of saying 'any questions please ask' or 'please email me before buying' it is 99% a fake.
When looking at a picture of the DVD on the listing, look it up on a reputable website like HMV to make sure the cover and artwork are the same... sometimes different regions have different covers, and sometimes it is the same with copies.
Of course this doesn't mean 100% safety but it helps to know how to make an informed decision.
I really think you should just buy it from a shop to avoid dissapointment!
It's nice to get something cheap from Ebay, but these people ruin it and put people off buying!0 -

These people keep the companies more honest. Imagine if their were no copies available, we'd all be paying £20+ for a dvd. Microsoft would double/treble it's software prices
DVD Pirates are this generations Robin Hoods (with the added business sense to charge a small profit margin!)
Its completely illiegal and immoral but I agree that your correct in saying pirating and downloading has driven down the costs of DVDs and video games.
I remember the day where new dvds coming in 90s were £20/£25 and that was just basic one disc ones.
Also, many console games for the N64 were a shocking £64.99 in the 90s too. Games are now considerably cheaper.
Its no excuse for pirating and profiteering off them but I believe your correct in sayings its the main reason DVDs are now affordable. You can get tonnes of good movies for £4/5.0 -
I understand where people are coming from, but this thread is sounding a bit like a witch hunt against this seller. I agree if a copy is being sold it should clearly state that, but normally if the buy it now price is so cheap then i would automatically assume a copy. But there are hundreds of people selling copies and imports.
A lot of people cant afford new dvds especially at this time of the year and rely on these copies, (unless they find this site and get discount vouchers..! )
Sorry if i sound harsh but with so many people doing it, it seems odd that people are only going after this seller.0 -

By all means, supply more names and I'll report them also.
This seller had the misfortune to list something that was desirable to a user of this forum, and the stupidity to admit it was a copy. It has now appeared in a public forum and her listings future will no doubt be scrutinised.
Occupational hazard of being a bootlegger, I'm afraid. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Hey,
Wow this is a interesting topic. i myself buy copied dvds for my 6 year old, this is for one reason only and its cos hes 6 and loves to surf the disk down the wood floor when hes done watching it, i refuse to pay £20+ for a disney film for my son to watch once then destroy! i buy new for myself cos i know i wont surf on it or spread butter and jam all over it and try feed it to the dog!
now i dont want to upset anyone but yes it would be really upsetting to give a dvd as a present but to find out its not genuine but may i surgest only buying dvds that are NOT currently showing in the cinemas! least it will shoud be a good picture with colour!0
