Richersounds instore purchase return policy

Hi All,

I am planning to buy Onkyo AV receiver + speaker package from Richersounds. Model is ONKYO HTS5405.

One thing I am little worried is how will this unit fit in my apartment. As in what will be the sound quality that I will get with this. The store dont have a demo unit for this. The sales man however said that I can purchase this and return in 7 days if I am not happy and will get full refund.

I looked at the return policy of RC and they say this is allowed only for online purchase. There is no mention of return policy for in store purchases. So I am not sure if the sales man is just saying this for his commission or it is really true.

Does anyone has an experience with returning items to richer sounds?

Thanks
Vikram

I have the Onkyo TX-SR308. Before that I had a very high end Panasonic amp circa 2003. I used the same speakers on both amps and the Onkyo sounds better than the Panny did.

The likelihood of it sounding so bad that you can't stand it is fairly remote, wouldn't you say?

If you're that critical of sound quality, what on earth are you doing buying from Richer Sounds? You should be looking at Absolute Sounds, more like.

This is the gamble you take when buying a HiFi off the shelf. If you want to demo it first, find a dealer who does home demos and be prepared to pay a premium for the privilege.

I have to rely on J Lewis for big items on line as their returns policy is straight forward and guarantees are longer, as I'm too old/tired to be arguing with the other sharks about returns/faults, even though their prices are cheaper.

Under the Distance Selling Regulations you have 7 working days from the day after delivery to inform the seller of your intent to return. You then have 30 days from delivery to get the goods back to the seller. HOWEVER that only applies to goods bought online, by phone or mail order.

If you buy goods in store you have agreed a contract and the seller is under no statutory obligation whatsoever to take them back simply because you have changed your mind.

So you expect to get a full refund just because you've changed your mind? What do you then expect them to do with the 2nd hand TV that you have returned to them, other than sell it at a loss?
Returns are purely discretionary and dependent on the store's own policy, you have no automatic legal right to one whatsoever if bought in-store.

Confirm your rights by emailing Richer Sounds Customer Services, or buy it online and be sure of that right to reject under the Distance Selling Directive..

Richer Sounds has some reasonably cheap kit, but customer services is far from brilliant. I once wasted two hours driving to a Richer Sounds store to buy equipment that they assured me on the telephone was in stock when it was not.

i have to stick up for Richer Sounds here . they have just been voted best UK retailer by Which survey . and i 100% agree .

i purchased a 2nd hand DVD player in one of their open box sales , and it didn't work . i took it back to a different store about a week later and they changed it for a different model , no questions asked .

twice i broke the binding posts on a set of speakers from them ( totally my fault both times ) and they fixed them for a reasonable price both times .

i have asked them to reserve stock several times , and they have always been most helpful . never had anything but superb service from them

Why don't you just buy the supercare ??? if you don't need to claim on it , then you get the full amount back as store credit when it expires .

i had the Onkyo 875 and it was a monster of a Amp . feature wise Onkyo's have the lot . if it's just sound quality you long for , have you considered a older high end amp . ? you can get bargains on ebay for things that don't decode HD sound or audio over HDMI . only Blu ray really does HD sound s, so if you get a Blu Ray player with Multi channel outs , you can get HD sound from the Amps Multi channel in's
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Depending on which active subwoofer it has got, you may end up returning it to Richer Sounds or sending that back (to Onkyo's agent Genserve) for a warranty repair almost straight away.

Onkyo have a problem with some of their active subs that makes them go to sleep when the low frequency sound levels on a signal go low.

They make a booming/popping noise when they do this and it is VERY annoying.

Onkyo should stick to what they are good at. It isn't subwoofers.
