What do you tend to do when not 100% happy with items from private seller?

I think I must describe my auctions a lot better than some!

Basically I bought a bundle of items, all described as in excellent condition. I only bought it for one item which I wanted and have had trouble finding elsewhere, I will probably end up selling the other items. Won't make a profit but probably get my money back. So..items turn up, and they're not what I'd describe as excellent. Good, probably.

I think I paid a good price for them, but even so..when/if I sell them, I will feel compelled to describe the marks in detail, which wasn't done on the original listing. Not sure if it's worth contacting the seller, as I don't want to return them and asking for a partial refund seems a bit..I don't know..I wouldn't give one if it was me.

Sorry, not really a question, just a mini rant.

ETA - one item has a rip on the inside (it's a lampshade) which is more of an issue than the small marks on other items. Hhmm maybe I should email the seller.

If you don't want to contact the seller or want any sort of refund i'd just mark them down on their DSR for item description (which even if they gave you a partial I would as the description wouldn't have changed)

I have in the past contacted the seller in a friendly way saying that I dont want any sort of refund etc but things were missed on the description and other buyers may not be as happy as me so would be careful with their descriptions.

Yeah I think that's probably what I should do. I definitely think they need to describe their items much better - they seem to be an experienced buyer but not seller (if that account is their only one anyway). I suppose I'm put off asking for a partial refund as it was a good price overall, and because I generally wouldn't give one - I'd either refund in full or not at all.

PS - what were the sellers like you contacted? Grateful or not?

Leave a neutral if you are happy enough to keep the items. Say something like 'better description needed - items OK'.
Its easy to believe you are listing correctly if everyone leaves positives or nothing at all.

I feel mean leaving a neutral! Maybe it's because I'm selling a lot of my own stuff just now and I'd hate to get a neutral out of the blue, although it'll probably happen at some point I'm sure.

I have only done it 3 or 4 times in the past few years. 2 were incredibly apologetic and grateful and one just ignored me. There is a chance you may rub someone the wrong way but as a seller if I got that from a buyer even if I disagreed I would have a good look at my auctions.

As a seller like you I don't normally give partial refunds. But I have few problems (now thats tempting fate isn't it.)

Not if you look at your DSRs as that is what they are for. I would only leave something less than a positive if I have more than one issue or the seller has been pretty bad. Also anything less than a positive I would wish to give the seller a chance of response before leaving it.

I agree, I'd look at my auctions if I got an email like that. They've only sold a couple of items so maybe just don't realise the need to list things properly - and also they paid a lot of money for the items so probably think they're worth it..whereas I think faults are faults and second hand prices are a lot less than new...

I'm glad I've opened a new account for buying though, should have done that a long time ago.

I think that you need to contact the seller, saying that while you think the price overall was good you don't think that it lived up to it's description of excellent.
There are often posts on here about this, condition is a difficult one to assess.
I would expect & only describe something as excellent if it was as good as new, others seem to think that it means, has some wear.

That's why I always try to describe (and photograph) all faults as at least then you've given the buyers a good idea beforehand.

I think I will drop the seller a friendly email.
