Data roaming

I have an iPhone 3gs with O2, with unlimited data bolt on. What is the point of having 'data roaming' selected and does it make any difference if I leave it off. Just talking about in the UK.
A problem shared is a problem multiplied. :o

When you're in the UK, it makes no difference if you leave roaming set to off - as you are only using the O2 network for your data. O2 doesn't have "home-market" roaming with any other carriers (unlike Orange and T-Mob for instance), in which case you would have this option set to allow roaming, so that you can use both company's networks for service.
