20"-26" Lcd Tv??

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a 20-23" LCD TV for a christmas present. It has to be widescreen and be good enough to double as a PC monitor for gaming (so I think this means it has to have digital input?) I'm looking to spend up to £350 for a decent brand. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Regards

Michelle

    how about this

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-23PF4321-Widescreen-Ready-LCD/dp/B000E192DG/sr=1-1/qid=1166054390/ref=sr_1_1/026-3267863-9441233?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

is £27 over budget, but is a good price i think. i have the 26" version and am really plsd with it. use it for sky, freeview and normal aerial and the picture is very good on all

Hi Sloth - thanks for the suggestion. I'd seen this when I searched on pricerunner too. It's got a 16ms response time though and although I'm not techie minded I'm a bit worried this might be too slow for playing PS2 or PC games - what do you think? Do you play games with the one you have? Thanks.

i only use my tv for tv as oppossed to pc/ps2 etc. however all i can say is that i watch a fair bit of football on it (sky/bbc) and it doesn't suffer any motion blurring which a number of other lcd's i have seen seem to suffer from. i assume the response rate would affect tv watching as well as pc use?? sorry i know it doesn't really answer your question

    Hi Sloth,

Yeah I'm the same as you - I'd be using the TV for watching tv only as I'm not into gaming but it's for my brother and he's always playing games (I guess the fact he's currently using an old Toshiba CRT to play has PS2 games on probably means it'd be ok as it can't have a better response time than a new LCD can it?! Although come to think of it I don't think CRT's have a response time.) I really like the look of that one and I think I can get it cheaper from Dixons by using a few codes but I'll carry on looking for a bit longer just in case so if anyone else wants to chip in with any suggestions you're more than welcome!

    Hi Davilown,

I'd actually found this set myself earlier - great minds eh?! I even started a thread on it - HERE.

The one thing putting me off it though is the 18ms response time as from reading reviews I'm concerned this will be too slow for my brother to play his PS2 games on it properly. Are you going to use it just for tv (it which case I think it seems great and a brilliant bargain!) or will you be using it for games too? Thanks for the links.

    Regards

probably xbox 360 - I'm not worried about the 16ms as its really quite diffciult tonotice unless you've got a trained eye. It's another gimmick to add to another gimmick iny opinion! at this price you cannot go wrong - I hope!

    Hi again Davilown,
I asked over in the techie forum about the response times (this thread) and the general consensus so far is that 18ms or 16ms is too slow for games  so I'm really unsure what to do now! I'm like you I probably wouldn't notice the difference and I don't play games so I wouldn't care anyway but my brother does play a lot so I wouldn't want to get him something that won't be any good for his games.

    Regards

    Hi again everyone,

Ok I've found THIS 22" Mirai set with a response time of 6.5ms that seems to be made to double up as both an LCD Tv and a PC monitor. I've not really heard of the Mirai brand before which puts me off a little but it seems to get good reviews - what do any of you think of this instead? I can get it for around £300 but it seems to be sold out at a few sites too. Would I be better off with this or should I pay the extra and get the 23" Samsung or the 23" Philips (and hope the 16ms is ok)? Thanks for the help.

    Regards

    Michelle
