The old adage seems to be poignant here.

"If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"
  • I've been online/telephone for several hours now and 4 times City Financial have text me saying my loan has been approved and they're trying to contact me. They havent actually rang me and each time I try to call back it says to leave a voicemail, but then tells me the voicemail is full!
So glad to have now googled them and found all this information on MSE!! :j

I havent got much experience looking for loans but I found out very early that you should never pay a fee to compare loans!!

Perhaps if they advertised that in place of half the PPI claim advertisements, the country would be in a better situation.

Everyone should seek advice from an independant financial adviser or Citizens Advice before taking any finance out, ever. Its too easy to be scammed or confused online.

  • well i found them and they were gone..
but i reported it to the police and UKASH
the police have given me a crime number and waiting for an answer from ukach.
but i have been told that if enough people complain to the police and gain a crime reference number we could get this one stopped and probably banged up

    Hay i can only ask!!!!!!

    This thread is scary.

No wonder these scams exist, so many people fall for them.

  • Hey, I did some research on City Financial and posted my results in another thread a while back (Which is now buried). This is what I found.
Unfortunately my sister has also fallen victim to this company under the guise of Validus Financial ltd (t.a. prontopound.com). They use northern financial as their creditor and are a subsidiary of City Financial. The registered offices for all three companies are the same:

    13A HYDE ROAD,
    WOODLEY
    STOCKPORT
    SK6 1QG

The MD for City Financial is the CEO of Validus. His name is Jonathan Smith and his linkedin profile is here (Say Hi to him for me if you have a premium account ):
    linkedin.com/pub/jonathan-smith/b/913/37b

The support staff are completely unprofessional and the woman said that they do state that they take an advance fee on prontopound.com when you enter your credit card details. I had a look on the website and that is not the case. Nowhere does it say ANYTHING about a brokerage fee, or any upfront fees at all for that matter.
