I and my mum need help on home repairs on our windows, exterior wall etc but I’m unemployed looking for work and my mum is retired. We have tried to save but find it difficult at the moment because of bills. Where can I go for help?
Thanks

try age concern. some branches have handymen on the books that can/will do little jobs for free.
or a small fee.Get some gorm.0 -
The majority of people in this country (app 65 - 70%) have opted for home ownership as their preferred means of accommodation. It brings many benefits. It also has a downside ie that the maintenance is up to the owner.

Lots of local councils have a care and repair service for elderly people, your mother may qualify0

Have a look at http://www.videojug.com - many DIY things are shown and explained how to do.
Nothing is really hard when you are shown properly.
Ask around friends and neighbours for bits of mortar/bricks/nails/wood or whatever you need, to keep costs down. Most people have plenty of odd bits'n'bobs in garden sheds or garages and would love to find them a good home.
Just get on and try some repairs yourself in the first place, especially in the nice weather.0 -
agreed, diy repairs, cheaper gives you sense of achievement0

You may be able to get a grant but I dare say it may be very hard to get one, some of these granst are means tested or have to pay back or its a charge on your property

its okay saying do repairs but not every one can repair things0 -
Not sure if it still applies but councils use to give grants called renovation grant and also home repair assistance, I dare say with funding cuts this may be curtailed or abolished. You had to be on low income and or possible work was essential0
