Bathroom Solid Wall - Insulation before tiling
Comments

Are all the three above boards comparable to Kinspan K18 board please? or is it just a price difference? If the latter, then I'll run with the cheapest? Thanks
The three I mentioned are actually tile backer boards designed specifically for the use you intend. SImply stick them to the wall with a cement based tile adhesive, once set, tile over them.
I have no knowledge of kingspan products.0 -
I'm also interested in doing this in my bathroom. Isn't it necessary to put in a vapour barrier? Is that just stapled to the batons before attaching the plasterboard/aquapanel?0

The Aquapanel & Aquapanel Thermal are quite different products, the first being a firbe reinforced cement tile backer board and the second a latex faced foam backer board.
The only time I ever fitted a membrane between aquapanel and an aluminium frame was in a rugby club communal shower that would have upto 24 showers running simultaneously.
The membrane requirement is really a commercial specification, it will do no harm if you want to fit one though.0 -
Most of the information regarding Aquapanel Thermal is for floors and underfloor heating. Can someone please clarify if this can be used on solid walls in a bathroom.
Thanks0 -
Also does the use of aquapanel thermal boards negate the need to use any other insulation behind them? (say use aquapanel thermal + 25mm polystyrene vs. aquapanel or plasterboard + 50mm polystyrene)?0

Could one of you super experts provide any more information at all please? Theres a few posters asking various questions on bathroom insulation on external walls here......? And I'm still watching this thread for any other useful info for us poor cold souls. Thanks :j
Actually, could someone please advise if this insulation board is suitable?? reiterate - bathroom external wall - solid wall house and if so, should I fit it onto battens?? AND can I tile directly onto this board please? http://www.wickes.co.uk/celotex-pir-insulation-board/invt/190545/?source=123_4 then plastboard on top OR
just run with Kingspan K180 -
We plan on using some of these

in ours when we do it. The Marmox stuff was recommended to us by a plasterer/tiler. It seems to provide a good surface for tiling AND insulation. It comes in various thicknesses, and can also be used for insulating floor prior to installing underfloor heating. We will have it on walls and floor.I refuse to have a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. :rotfl:0 -
