Flies...

Hello everyone. I have loads of flies in my garden... Any suggestions for something I can do / recommend a good garden fly killer? Thanks Mighty.

Well, that is where they live. ;)

But having said that, what sort of flies are they? Are they attracted to any particular area? Have you left a decomposing body out that you haven't had [STRIKE]chance to bury under the patio[/STRIKE] oops, sorry, thought this was another thread. :o
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Should they chew them before swallowing or swallow them whole?

We have a big pot of mint growing near our bins this year and it does seem to have lessened the amount of flies we get.

    On a more sensible note................

You shouldn't have loads of flies, so are cats or foxes using your garden as a toilet? are they near a drain that could be getting blocked? a dead bird maybe? something will be attracting them.

There are many kinds of flies.

While my post was a bit tongue in cheek, it was also there to remind people that what is a minor nuisance to them might be another creature's staple diet. There are very few 'useless' living things, but if there are far too many of one fly species, then as annie says, something is atrracting them.

    Name one!

I don't think anything's useless, they all do something. :)

I think my local ecosystem could easily manage without couch grass. ;)

It does something, of course, but other things do what it does with less hassle.

I think wasps are useless. What do they do for us that something else doesn't already do?
