Shall I buy this Acer 3-year warranty for my new 5742Z laptop?

Why buy a extended warranty in the first 12m, when it's still covered by the manufacturer's own warranty? If a laptop is inherently faulty, odds are it will go wrong in the first year.
And if Acer's have a 1 in 4 chance of failure in the first 3 years, then maybe it's time to consider an alternative brand?
The warranty has to be registered in the first year of ownership, or the first three months to get accidental damage included (which is good to have in case the repairer tries to claim the fault was caused by the user).
Asus are apparently most reliable, but even then the figure given for failures in the first three years is 15.6% (Acer 23.3%). A similar spec Asus was £50 more than the Acer I bought, and warranties were much more expensive.0 -

Apparently the warranty is "carry in" rather than "collect and return". Can anyone confirm to where the laptops can be carried to? (PC World etc?) I don't want to buy a warranty then have to travel miles with the laptop to get it repaired, as it'd be less hassle to sell it as spare and repair and buy a new one!0 -
If not nearby then you can use a virtual courier service for about £10 for a laptop,No free lunch, and no free laptop

Apparently? Does that mean that the quoted Product Code is incorrect?
The quoted product code points to a 'collect & return' warranty.
So if the product code is not the one quoted, what is the correct product code?0 -

Maybe the seller has made a mistake, I am not sure. I am looking at http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130521650842&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:GB:1123 I emailed the seller and he replied "The "carry in" bit means that they don't collect from your home under the conditions of the warranty. If you have a problem, you take it to one of their outlets like PC World, John Lewis's etc and they collect and return to there."
I also emailed a seller of a different Acer warranty that also stated carry-in and he replied "Typically "carry-in" refers to the fact that the device has to be sent to the Acer service center rather than it being an "on-site" repair. I believe that Acer provide a full collection and return service with their warranty agreements but you can check this on their website http://www.aceradvantage.com/"
I cannot find on SV.WNBAF.E03 on that website, so I will email them to ask I think.0 -

You are really making a novel out of this. If he has reported the code(SV.WNBAF.E03) correctly, then the conditions are as I have reported.
If the code is incorrect, you are fully covered by eBay anyway as the item is not as described. So what is the problem?
Stop giving yourself...and me a headache.
Buy the thing. If the code if different and you don't want to keep it, get a refund.
Some are carry in and some are pick up & return. This is 'pick up and return' according to the quoted code.
How long is this thread going to get before you stop cogitating...?0
