To transfer money from an HSBC current account you need to give the receiving bank account details to HSBC. If you want a regular transfer, then create a standing order. You cannot use a direct debit to transfer money between 2 of your own accounts as only businesses can operate direct debits.
To get your money out, you ask the Savings Account institution (Santander) to make a transfer to wherever you want the money to go. This won't be a direct debit for the reasons I explained above.0 -

1. Go to Santander Online or Telephone Banking
2. Select EasySaver account, from the list of your accounts
3. Select "payments", then "make a payment"
4. Input HSBC account details & amount to transfer
5. Select "send", then print receipt as confirmation
6. Have a brew
or
1. Go to Santander cash machine
2. Select "withdraw cash"
2. Input amount you want to withdraw
3. Select EasySaver account
4. Take cash to HSBC and pay it in
Simples.....
No fannying around with Direct Debits, when they aren't needed!
A Direct Debit instruction is you giving an organisation/3rd party your permission to help itself to money in your account, how would setting up a DD with Santander help you get money out of Santander? (assuming you could set up a DD on a savings account, which very often isn't allowed).
Either way, it's irrelevant as the OP doesn't need ANY Direct Debits to do what they want to do - moving their own money between accounts at different banks.0 -
'Hello Miss F,
Your Santander eSaver
Make your money work harder with your newly opened eSaver Issue 3 account
Thank you for choosing to save with Santander. We're pleased to say your eSaver Issue 3 is now open and ready for you to make the most of.
To prove this email is from us, we've included your online application reference number (OLA) in the title of this email. This is the number that we asked you to note down at the end of your online application.
How to start saving
To make sure you take full advantage of the great rate your eSaver brings you, you'll need to make your first deposit within the next 28 days.
Your account details are:
Sort code: ............
Account number: ..............
There are three ways you can make your first deposit:
1. From another account with Santander
When you log on at santander.co.uk, you can transfer funds from another Santander linked account or set up a Standing Order to pay money into your eSaver.
2. From an account with another provider
Simply make a bill payment or standing order into your eSaver, by providing your provider with your account number above. If you require funds to be moved into your account from another bank the same day, you can ask your bank to move your funds by a CHAPS payment or Telegraphic Transfer. There is usually a charge for this service.
3. By cheque
Make sure that the cheque is in your name and write your name, date of birth and your 8-digit account number on the back. Then send the cheque to:

Bit of an update!
If it really is as simple as you say then why don't they want my money??
Transferred money from HSBC to Santander yesterday, transferred my money across..not a problem..yay!
Logged onto HSBC tonight, my money has come back!!
Rang Santander...mmm sorry Mrs ***** but we need a copy of your passport, we've blocked your account! I explained I'd already provided one when I first opened the account, no good, need another one! I asked why it was so difficult to pay money in (I opened a Tesco savings acc. 3 weeks ago and it has been simple from the start) she said they weren't trying to make it difficult. HMMM
Oh well, I shall be going into the local branch tomorrow to close the account!0 -
