Shanghai - when to book

Can anyone advise on the best time to book flights from London to Shanghai to get the best price? I am starting a new job there in August and relocating my family so will be looking to pay for four flights. I really need to get the best deal on this and was wondering if prices are likely to come down or go up between now and next month? I will be flying direct Heathrow to Shanghai probably with Virgin or BA.

    Be very careful...

I find it very strange that your employer is not taking care of your transport. Are you sure that they are really going to pay you, and that you have a valid visa that allows you to work?

Hi, I returned from Shanghai 18 months ago, having worked out there for the previous four years. Our experience was that it was better to book flights earlier rather than later. The international schools generally start back mid to late-August so there's usually a rush on flights back around then for all the people who've been back in the UK for the summer break hence prices tend to be higher.

We always travelled Virgin to/from China and I would definitely recommend them. Well worth applying for airmiles cards too for all the family if you don't already have them - the points soon build up.

As mentioned by a previous forumite, I'm surprised your travel out is not being paid for by the company - of the many expats I met over the years, none had to pay for flights themselves. And the Chinese are very strict on visas so do make sure you have the correct one before travelling.

Enjoy Shanghai! We'd love to go back.

I do have an annual flight allowance but obviously the cheaper the flights the more trips I can make! Visas are all taken care of.
I will book asap thanks for tips.
