    ...Having an iPhone might just give Pink_Floyd an advantage in the job market for example. He might get that all important email immediately after its been sent, allowing him to instantly reply, giving him a heads up over a rival, something he may have missed out on if he waited til later that evening to check his emails...
    I don't argue with your other points, but this one is just a part of 'justification'. Much less expensive phones on much less expensive contracts have the same functionality.

    Phew, cant believe it the op was just expressing his joy and surprise, at having laid his hands on a revolutionary gadget, that's clearly trendy. For all we know he could have simply bought one outright, as at no point has he stated he cannot afford one, but it's definitely better to get one on contract and benefit from the network subsidies, and am also made to believe this can actually help up his credit ratings. Instead this thread is now changing into a slagging of match of we "we have good credit, you dont", well let me just say my own part, I migrated to the UK and am a proud uk citizen, and my wife and I both have bad credit cause when we got here we went straight to uni, and as such accumulated lots of debt, but we are now both in professional jobs, and we earn a lot and can afford just about anything and everything, without having to resort to worry about whether our credit status is good or bad. So having a good credit status is not a passport to happiness, as a good credit status won't pay your pension, or holiday does it!?, so op good on you matey enjoy your shiny new iPhone, and if you can jailbreak it, go ahead to unleash its full power.

    Oh well, at least you've justified it to yourself. Good luck selling that iPhone for £510 in 24 months times!

    Last year I sold an iPhone 3G for £240. A two year old phone. I got the phone free, it selling it brought my over all monthly cost down to £17 a month for 600 mins, free o2 to o2, 1000sms (including mms - 4 sms = 1 mms) and unlimited internet.

    Show me another phone that's worth £200+ when it's two years old? No matter how much it cost to buy.

    As long as the OP looks after the phone, and I'd suggest getting apple care. He'll have no problem selling at a decent price in 24 months. Not £500, but a decent price none the less.

    Thanks to those who have offered kind comments and support. :)

    To clarify, and I actually shouldn't need to, but I will. The reason I have poor credit is I was invalided out of HM Forces through no fault of my own. It took some time for my pension etc to be ratified during which time I relied on family to support me. Non-essential creditors were given 2nd priority (as advised by national debt line) and some registered defaults on my accounts.

    I don't want or expect a pat on the back for serving. It was my choice to sign up. However at least I have done something with my life unlike some of the dross living in Britain who have never worked and swan around with iPhones and such like.

    I am not rich by any stretch of the imagination now, but I am comfortable. However I cannot get credit due to the reasons mentioned. I am unable to work for the present time so I attend university so that I can work towards a better career. I could sit on my rear all day, but it's not the type of person I am.

    This forum appears to be a place for people to snipe at others unless you fit the profile of a serial saver, a stoozer or a general penny pincher with 'perfect' credit. I believe there is a saying;

    You are only ever a few pay packets away from being financially ruined

    Perhaps if people here adopted that attitude and tried to help, support and coach people the forum would be a nicer place to be.
  • Shame you had to give an explanation as to why but I hope those who cant help themselves are happy now! I havent been on here for a while and surprised to see its getting snipey..
