  • Heat the contents of a tin of creamed mushrooms, seasoned with salt and pepper.
Pour over hot buttered toast and top with a fried or poached egg.
    Yum!

;) Felines are my favourite ;)
  • My SIL gave me this recipe which she got from her MIL who is Italian.
Crush a clove of garlic into a cup, add an inch of olive oil and 3 teaspoons of dried parsley. Leave for a couple of hours. Cook enough spaghetti for two people and add the mixture to the hot, drained spaghetti. Serve into bowls and top with grated cheese.
I haven't tried this one myself yet, but this has got to cost no more than pennies!

You then have to add on milk, tea, coffee, drinks, cereal, bread, sugar. If you have kids you cant deny them odd biscuit after school. Then petfood. It soon adds up.
It isnt dinners that are so expensive just everything inbetween.School holidays are a killer trying to feed hungry kids.My milk bill is just over a pound everyday with 4 kids.I cant and wont cut that back.We could easily use more.Thats £7 alone.

I totally agree, it is everything in between. fresh fruit alone costs me in excess of £12 a week for my family. 6 pints of milk a day soon adds up too and unless I have my own cow I dont see how I can get this any cheaper!

  • Corned beef hash eaters beware!

This is usually one of our staple 'quick, easy & cheap' meals...but I noticed this week that Mr ASDA's SP corned beef has gone up from 78p a tin...to £1.08 - I reckon off the top of my head that's nearly a 40% increase  YIKES! Not such a cheap meal anymore.........

    That's crazy!

Can you still get Smart Price minced beef for sixty-odd pence? You really do have to put the stuff in a sieve and drain it with boiling water once you dry-fry it. It's very, very fatty. It'd make a good alternative in a hash though (once drained and with an extra beef stock cube added).

The SP mince was 99p last week - but the way that things are suddenly leaping up in price - next week = who knows?!?.
I agree it is very fatty but I dry-fry it and pour off the fat. I did once (sad person that I am - LOL!) buy this and the more expensive one, dry-fried both and then weighed them and worked out if it was really any cheaper than the more expensive stuff with less fat in it - it was still cheaper....
I prefer the nicer mince, and always try to get it Whoopsied or on offer, but sadly I think it's going to be SP stuff for the next little while.

    UPDATE - NEWS JUST IN!
My mum has just done her shopping in ASDA and phone to tell me that the corned beef is now gone up a bit more - £1.17 a tin! In Lidl last nite, theirs was £1.18 where it used to be about equivalent to ASDA's 78p....what the heck is going on??????
