switching B&C insurance after a claim

Options
I recently had to claim on my B&C policy with Direct Line. I have been really unhappy with the level of service I have recieved from them and would like to move to another provider.

I hope this will also give me an opportunity to save money, however, as I have claimed recently will anyone else take me on? Is there a set time period I should stay with Direct Line after making a claim?

any advice would be helpful.

Thanks
r.mac

Hi r.mac, personally I've moved around every year for a better deal, whether I've claimed or not. It doesn't seemed to have affected my premium, only the obvious rise after a claim.

I swop every year, and premiums seem to drop,as Insurance companies offer better deals for new customers.
I usualy do a web search of about 6 companies, the click through rpoints and get another £20/£30 off, with rpoints,

lol absolutely! I was being overly amourous when I wrote that and lumped the mse'rs in with the friends category!! ;)

And you are certainly right about the large companies and their huge renewels! I also worry that the older generation still feel too loyal and just pay it instead of shopping around :(

I think so many people get put off changing as they think it will be a lot of effort. I know that it one reason I haven't got round to it yet - it always manages to be on the bottom of my to do list!!!!

Having said that though r.mac, it really is easy applying for insurance on the internet and getting a good deal from the comparison sites, also cheaper than ringing around. Have you ever applied for anything over the net??

lol@savvy. A couple of times, but I am generally just a little lazy. Oh, and I use my work computer, so I always feel a little guilty!

in fact, I am off to look at the comparison site now and make a start on my switch.

    Thanks for all your advice.

I have been on the comparison website and have hit a problem! They will only quote me for contents insurance. According to them only the Halifax will quote me for B&C and they are expensive! I think this is because I am a flat.

any idea on where to look next? Is there a 'big five' I should check out independantly?

    Many Thanks in advance
