what do you mean by uploads?
Anything you upload or download, stream etc etc counts towards your usage limit.
Say you have 15gb, you can upload, download, stream etc etc in any mix up to that limit.

If you mean upload speeds then just as with dowload speeds its a how long is a piece of string question.

A lot of ISP's cap the upload speed to around 0.5Mbps, but it does vary according to package.

  • It depends on what you mean.

Do you mean usage allowance (data transfer) - in which case, you'd need to check the ISP's terms to see if they meter downloads only, or uploads as well towards your monthly allowance.

    If you mean speed:

Cable upload is generally 10% of download (e.g. 50meg down 5 meg up)

Fibre based connections on the BT network have 2Mbps or 10Mbps upstream based on what you choose, but that's an "up to" not an actual. You'd need a very short line to cabinet to see the maximum speeds assuming you can get it.

ADSL is usually either of the 256kbps, 448kbps or 832kbps variety - basically, dog slow.

If you live in the telephone exchange or near as and have a phone line that's very, very short you can have something called an Annex M connection where you trade download speed for upload speed. You might see the dizzying highs of as much as 2.5Mbps up then.

3G is variable, we get about 1.7Mbps upstream but we get a good service.
