It your garden - not anyones

Hazel will be slow, willow quick - you want a quick hedge then willow

It won't die if you dont water it - it might sulk. YOu don't have to do anything to it except get cuttings or rods locally - or I'll post you some and shove them in the ground - no digging required, no compost etc.

On this I am an expert. Defer to me if you decide on willow.

And, ignore me if you like, its your garden. Please yourself - you'll be in there - ask one gardener a question and you'll get a million opnions.

YOu do not need compost or a sprinkler whatever you do.

Hands cheery a cup of tea - excellent on the herb drying I did read you'd done it.

Thank you :D :coffee: You are great :D

I think the problem with the other people giving me advice is that one has worked as a ranger and is very into Doing Things Properly (hence buying (buying!) a leaky hose :rotfl: :rotfl: and huge amounts of digging (she also has a fabulous garden - and a husband with a well paid job so no need for her to work so has plenty of time to garden...). The other is an ex-boyfriend, so I always like to do the opposite of what he says anyway :p :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Both of them give advice from the point of view of what they would do in their own situation - neither of them seem to get the attitude of gay abandon and frivolous thriftiness that I apply to my garden :rotfl: :rotfl: You do though :D And are also a Willow Expert and all round gardener extraordinaire, so I will bow to your superior wisdom and just bl**dy get on with it :D:D :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

:) bravo for sensible garden ness and yummy crisps :)

I went lookign for autumn colour today - what a hoot.

Found a lot of very daft looking trees with NO leaves.

Yay to Yorkshire crisps going all that way on an adventure :T :T :T :D

Spent the last hour and a half trying to dig out a giant rose bush. Tried to dig it out a couple of years ago, then gave up, leaving all the roots exposed, and the darn thing came back even bigger and better than before :rotfl: It's had another couple of years reprieve, but now it's right in the way of the fence, so it's coming out. Feel quite bad about it :o but I reckon it's had a good life, and I'm lopping most of the roots off rather than digging them out, so chances are the pesky thing will come back anyway :rotfl: :rotfl:

Got a cuppa and some cake now :D Look very bizarre with yesterday's posh teal nail varnish (very jolly and elegant) and hands all covered in mud and blood (roses are very prickly!) :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Hey Dawn,

It's a recycling project manager for our local recycling charity, affiliated with the national organisation in Scotland. Great job, proper salary 2.5 days a week, at our recycling site on a Saturday.

We have a wee recycling site (womble HQ) Where people can donate/ or buy things and go talk to community, schools etc.

There are various themes from stop the drop, love food hate waste, peat free, and so on.

Aims to change folks habits through education and eventually things like local food initiatives etc.

    Fun recycling project.

Leaves me free to peruse gardening, hort teaching at work (college) and at home through my peedie new business.

    ;) half womble/half gardener.

Salary double my phd stipend :) (24k) although pro rata......still more than I've ever earned.

So it overall fits nicely into the patchwork life.

Sounds fantastic - and well deserved!

    CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Have just caught up on 10 pages of thread, and it has been like reading an exciting novel, sitting on the edge of my seat trying not to skip to the end to find out what happens :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Hope it is fun as well as virtuous! :)

YAY :) Been neglecting your thread for a couple of days (bit like I do my garden all the time ;) ) and come back to discover happy news, so pleased for you re: wombling, it sounds right up your street. Fantastic news!

I have news too......I sold my house yesterday!! To the second set of people who viewed it, without any particulars (they had to look at my neighbour's brochure as that house has recently sold and the agent hasn't had time to do mine yet) and they sound lovely - oh and they're paying what I want for the house. Yippee!!

Now to look for the 'dream, forever' house and guess what........something went online yesterday that looks amazing and is in my price range, just got to hope that I can go and see it on Monday afternoon with DD and we like it. She's super-excited about it all too, but I'm conscious that things are happening very quickly, so want to make sure I keep her involved in the new home process, as moving is a big thing, even though we are going to stay in the same village, no matter what type of place we move to.

Right, I guess I'd better attempt to get back to sleep now, DD and I went up to my bed way too early for me, as she was overtired and needing cuddles after Strictly.

I'm only away 24 hours or so, and these posts are exciting :rotfl: Cheery, thats exactly what held me back gardening for so long - healthy plants doing their thing, but I just didn't **want** them, whether it was want them there or want them at all. Good for you for doing what you want!

Pippi, this gets more and more exciting about getting the job! And you had a dinner out last night, at a hotel no less, thats brill.

And then KK! Congratulations to you too! I'm glad you're staying in the same village, we *have* to meet up - but argh! I thought I was going to your village today, more or less, to the Oktoberfest Transitions Initiative - turns out it was yesterday, when I was at actual meetings and seminars, bah!

Ah well - another time. Hope everyone has a *wonderful* day, especially since we have another hour to play :)
