The New Imac 21.5-inch, 2.5GHz that I did not get offered from PCWorld

Hello,

I bought and Apple Imac on the 07/05/2011 from PCWorld.

Even thought the newer version was released on the 03/05/2011 I was still sold the old one. It is very disappointing to find out that the £1020 computer is already obsolete.

I contacted PCWorld who refused to change it as it was open and passed the 21 days guarantee.

Please can you advice if there is something I could do?Is there a regulatory body who look after those issue?

Any help/advice is much appreciated.

Thank you.

Not only was it the previous iteration you were charged £21 more for a slower machine.

They currently charge £899 for the previous model. I would continue protesting and demand the compromise of an £121 refund. That seems the fairest option. (Absolutely no right to this, of course, but seems reasonable.)

So perhaps running Auslogics duplicate file finder set to look for all files, and then removing the duplicates and the original for the display would produce a similar result

As long as you can download and install a replacement for whatever you choose to remove in case they still will not replace the iMac

I was in exactly the same position as you, except i purchased from the apple store i retuirned within the 14 day window they had set so I was OK, and here lies the rub.. you have 21 days and you went to PC world! Like the others say, kick up a stink with them as PCW are notoriously crap as customer service

It isn't obsolete. The new ones are hardly a massive leap forward from the one you have.. I bought my MBP just a month before the refresh. And the difference? The new one had 4GB instead of 2GB and a 250GB HDD instead of a 160GB on mine. Other than that it was identical.

Just a word of warning. I would actually stick with the one you have. The new iMacs have custom made hard drives with a built in temperature sensor. If you replace the hard drive with a standard SATA one, the cooling fans in the iMac will run flat out constantly and you're looking at £200+ from Apple to get a 500GB or larger drive for the new current model compared to £40 from anywhere else for the one you have..

Sorry. I am at a loss here to see what recourse the OP has with PC World.

You went into PC World, you enquired about an iMac, you were shown a "not the newest" model which you accepted and paid for.

You don't see it? She has received poor service, they obviously saw an opportunity to get rid of an older model that would be gathering dust.

That depends on whether they had the newer model sitting next to it or not. Plus what do you expect from PCWorld, PCWorld=Bad service. I went in there and was told linux was a cut down version of xp when the first netbooks came out.

You might get a refund of the difference but thats a big might.

I'd have bought it. They sold what they had in stock. It is not their fault the customer can't be bothered to do rudimentary homework.

This is taken from PC World's website, I'm sure they probably have some similar signage instore:

"Here at PC World we want to make your experience shopping with us online as easy as possible........ We’re thrilled you’ve chosen PC World and we want to make sure you’re thrilled with us."

"For our colleagues, we believe there are four core values that constitute who we are, as individuals and as a team:

    - We love to make our customers happy
    - We know our stuff
    - We love to work here
    - We deliver"

They didn't live up to their commitment, did they?

Not that I would ever condone buying a computer from PC World, mind.
