So diesel Lagunas all-round then....
All I know is that *every* time I've Euroboxes they've cost more to run than cars with Eastern marques. Every time.
And so it continues with the Focus I have now. New exhaust after four years indeed -- never had a car where the exhaust lasted less than 8 years before. To go with the corroded core plugs and naff plastic clutch master cylinder in the last 10 months.
Cheaply made tat. No different to 15 years ago to be honest.0 -

The Laguna would be a great car....if it wasn't made by Renault :rotfl::rotfl: I haven't seen a good review for that car yet. Lots and lots of complaints about the electrics, the French still can't master automotive electrics yet they pack it full to the brim with electronic gadgets. Complaints about the gearbox and suspension being another issue, avoid like the plague.....Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -
TBH 2005-on PETROL Lagunas are actually pretty good apart from rear suspension bushes.0

Short journeys ruin an exhaust.
Having said that, my Vauxhall oe battery just stared to be a little slow after 6 years, so as I need it to start, with a lot of short trips, I put in a new Vauxhall one, and the back box lost a hanger so I replaced that this year.
So 6 years later, the only other costs have been the thermostat that wasn’t closing properly about a year ago, and normal maintenance items.
So about £150 in parts doesn’t seem too over the top for a 7 year old car.0 -
'Japanese' cars may be made in Britain (or elsewhere) but under Japanese quality control management and designed by Japanese engineers who have the need for reliability dinned into them at school.
Survey after survey has shown that the Japanese - now followed by the Koreans - consistently deliver a higher level of customer satisfaction than most (not all) competitors. But still the prejudice rolls on unabated.0 -

Whereas Ford and the like just have Fred in his brown overall at the end of the line doing a quick inspection then they're straight off to the customer?

If you don't realise that there is a distinct cultural difference then I suspect you've not worked for, or alongside, a Japanese company.
That's not to say it is always a positive factor. I can think of quite a few downsides to the Japanese approach. But poor product reliability tends not to one of them.

Oddly enough, I have.
And as you are well aware, the biggest distinct culteral difference is the Japanese will never lose face.
The main effect of that is that they cannot admit to a mistake, as that's one of the biggest losses of face of all.
Everything is always 100% correct, and 100% reliable.
And if they say it enough, people repeat it with them, and a myth is born.0 -

plus they all have to bow and things before they start their shifts
couldnt do any of that
as someone pointed out the nissan cars were great till reno came in and now they suffer problems
friends just had to fork out £4000 for a transfer box and fitting on one of those gerano things

You still haven't accounted for the surveys and studies. I suppose you believe they are a result of mythology, too?
It's just a fact that the Japanese (and the Koreans, now) produce cars that are, on the whole, more reliable than most others.
They may often not handle as well, they may not look as sexy, their less common spares may be over-priced - but if reliability is what you are after, that's the way to go.0
