What second hand car to buy?

For £2000 i reckon you might get a three or four yr old Koran, Lacetti, or any number of bland Korean saloons.
Doubt you will get the nice Lacetti estate.
Your best bet is search Autorrader with a 3grand kimit then do it for each Korean manufactuer and you will get an idea of what is out there.
After we bought a cheap automatic Accent as a stand in motor that was kept for the best part of three years i would recommend a cheap Korean runner. But parts can be expensive if you have to get them from the main dealer, and you won't get Focus/Astra/Golf/Leon driving dynamics0 -
What about a Honda of some sort? My step dad has a L reg Civic, paid £700 for it 3/4 years ago, and its run like a dream since he has had it! Heard good things about Hondas. What is pi? Where did it come from?0

just bought a focus 1.6, 51 reg and 65k on the clock, short MOT & tax but drives good and was only £1500! Had to travel for and needed a good clean.
But i'd personally look for a Rover 75, great cars for the money, i drive a MG ZT 190 on LPG and get 42MPG! You can pick a R75 1.8 up for a grand easily just check its had all necessary work done such as Head gasket upgrade or budget for it or add AA Breakdown Repair Cover0 -
I have had 2 Ford Focus cars and cannot recommend them highly enough!!0

I kack myself everytime I here this stuff.
"All Japanese is good and it will run for ever everything else is poor and unreliable".
What????
So why aren't we all driving Japanese stuff??
A few clues;
Most run of the mill Jap stuff is now made in the UK by Brits:cool:
Jap stuff made it's inroad to the uk market by having more standard kit than the opposition, now not remotely true.
It used to be a cheaper alternative to Ford, Rover Vauxhall etc, heh heh, wake up and check now.
Most Jap companises are now in bed with Ford or Renault or some other european outfit???
People have been brainwashed into believing that Japanese is good and will last forever. Now please do not take this as a racial issue, it is simply an observation.
Whenever I or anyone I know advertise a Nissan or a Toyota, almost all the interest comes from the Asian fraternity, perhaps someone can explain that?, but the point of the issue is that almost every car I see broke down on the side of the motorway network is a Japanese car with an Asian family alongside. It's almost as if it's believed these cars will go on forever, and once bought I can only assume get little maintenance.
Sorry for the divergence, but there are very few unreliable cars today, if properly looked after;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -

I'd avoid the petrol R75/mg zt as they aren't economical without the addition of LPG and the 1.8 is definitely the worst engine out of the bunch. The 2.0/2.5 doesn't suffer with HGF (its not common anyway) like the 1.8. If the purpose of changing cars is for economy then around the mid 20's MPG isn't going to do you any favours. The diesel is pretty good though but again you won't be saving over the purchase price if only doing a few miles here and there. The rover 75/MG zt is still a good car to buy, you get plenty of spec for a lot less money when compared with other rivals.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0 -

I agree its not the right car for the OP they need an economical run around by the sounds of it.
To be fair on a forum your going to have several people say this car is the best for you and most reliable and several others that will disagree. Plenty of good cars have been mentioned from fords to hondas and they are much the same in the end and at that budget so it will come down to personal preference.Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.0
