Ipad vs Xoom - Which One?

Hi Guiys
Thought I'd try MSE to get some advice on buying a tablet PC rather than the usual geeky techy forums.
Simple enough question really, which one would you buy - the Apple iPad2 or the Motorola Xoom? For a while I've been favouring the Xoom because of its support for Flash which the iPad doesn't have but when I started to analyse what I needed it for I don't actually go on Flash sites that much and when I do there is probably an app for it anyway.
I'm going to be using it for monitoring web sites during the evening whilst I'm sat watching TV with the family so it needs to have good browsing ability and I'd like to send email as well.
What do you think people?
Thanks

I am just waiting for my Xoom to be delivered. I am starting to shy away from apple because of the restrictive nature of what they will and will not allow on their products. I like to watch things like Channel4 OD, bbc iplayer etc, but no chance really on an Apple. VLC was removed from the app store. I do not like apple dictating to me what format to view movies etc on. So I am moving away from them and the Xoom seemed the best alternative around atm. I know that Android 3 is still being "developed" and there are not as many apps around, but seriously, how many do you neeed or use?
But if ALL you want to do is surf the web and email whilst at home (and Angry Birds is not in your vocabulary :-) ) then a net book may be a better optionThere are 10 kinds of people that understand binary

I've been trying to decide for a while now!! I've been looking at the Xoom, but the Acer Iconia looks good too. I don't need one for about 3 months so God knows what I will end up with. All I know is it will not be an Ipad (unless I win one!)What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

There is a BBC iPlayer App for iPad which is really good. I'm an iPad owner and whilst I agree in principle about them being restrictive they are big enough and sell enough to get away with it. Hence why iPlayer is now available and I believe I read 4OD is due to follow suit.
People are starting to realise the market is there regardless of Apple not accommodating flash and are therefore creating non-flash versions of things, and mirroring sites to non-flash."We can all fly as high as the dreams we dare to live...........unless we are a chicken" ~ Anon.0 -

Iplayer and 4OD are both in the app store, TVCatchup works perfectly on the Ipad.
VLC was removed due to licensing issues, not Apple restrictions, and there are 10s of VLC replacement apps available for free.
So it seems everything you need is already available for the Ipad, yet you still don't like being 'dictated to'!0 -

I've got an iPad and watch BBC iPlayer (have done from day one), also TV catchup and now 4OD (App been out a few weeks).
There was a review on the Gadget Show this week about Tables and the iPad2 come out tops, but it depends how important Flash and Price is to you. Flash has never really being an issue for me, there has been a couple of times it would of been nice but nothing major.
If you want the best OS, the best selection of Apps and don't want to hack it than iPad all the way.0 -
If price no issue, get the ipad. If you want value for money, get an android one.
If you can see how pointless tablets are fullstop, get a netbook or mini laptop.0 -
iPad all the way here too even if you don't get flash player. Things like 4OD and Iplayer you do get in fact go to the app store and most things are there now.
I use mine for work and play and really need another one.
If getting a tablet of any kind do get a cover for it and make sure your house insurance covers it.
I have iPad as to the iPad 2 as that has the camera which at the mo I don't really need. Got a really good deal on it with orange as I do take mine out and about.0 -
