Celtic the Glasgow Football team who are very popular in the Republic as a whole are known as the Gers due to being formed by Gerry O'Malley a Fruit importer from Dublin, who was the first man to introduce citrus fruit to both Scotland and Ireland. So if you walk into a pub filled with people say "Up the Gers, I'm proud to be an orange man!" and you will receive a warm welcome and will probably not need to buy a pint all night. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head.
